Thanksgiving is my partner’s favorite holiday. For me, it is the holiday that I would most like to avoid. Its like Christmas without the presents. I end up slaving away in the kitchen just so we do not order another meal from Boston Market (or similar) and meanwhile he gets to hang out with his kids. Fun, fun! I will take Halloween ANY DAY!

I hate the period of time from after Halloween to New Years. For me, it’s depressing. I try to avoid all aspects of the seasons during then.

@Meowzer: That’s because it’s not made for you. Just something that adults have to put up with for the kids.

However, some adults still get excited over it. Like when they get presents from someone that has the .. $$.

I love the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Corny and predictable, it’s become a real tradition and I love having it on the TV while I prep and cook. And, who doesn’t like watching a football game while gorging on delicious food?

      Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

There’s nothing that’ll get me to watch football longer than it takes to dial past it on TV. I’ve never understood the rules and was happy to hand off the ball to whoever was closest when forced to play it in P.E. even if it was an opponent.

When I was little and wanted my dad to play or take me somewhere he’d always say “There’s only ten minutes left in the game.” Ten minutes’ football time is ninety minutes in real-world time.

Here’s the hole [sic] image herein. I always thought you americans were too puritainly prudish to show a row of fine see thrued arse cracks together on such a manly place as a sports field.I guess I have always been wrong. What have I missed.https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=football+ass&num=30&newwindow=1&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHMO_en-GBNZ575NZ575&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjzhOKTyK7JAhWk4aYKHbKwCaEQ_AUIBygB&biw=1789&bih=951#imgrc=sZktZEaF_0IkOM%3A

Thanksgiving. A holiday with dubious and nefarious origins. It’s a holiday I’ll pass on.

What pisses me off about the holiday is that the myths are now taken as reality. Virtually everything we think we know about it is either dead wrong or unsubstantiated.

@rand503: “Oh, and the pilgrims were the biggest assholes in american history.”

THANK YOU! You hit the nail on the head with that one. No one seems to have learned WHY they had no other choice but to get their asses out of England whilst their asses were still intact. They didnt show up broke either. The only problem was the indians were not used to their method of trade. Can you imagine the indians looking at them and wondering “what the fuck is wrong with these people? They dress weird and my wife doesn’t dress as feminine as those men do (did).”

Many people also never seem to notice how the Indians are never portrayed as if they knew how to do ANYTHING until those people with those silly ass looking hats and stockings showed up. And have you noticed in the portraits of them (the Puritans, or pilgrims if you will) just how homely the women look? I mean we are talking just “outright” dogs here. As in woof, woof.

I feel sorry for those poor indians. I bet they wish the Vikings (the real men of that era) had conquered them instead of those queens hiding behind their version of a god above.

@Bob LaBlah: Those pilgrims wanted religious freedom for themselves, but prohibited other religious beliefs. They fined people if they didn’t show up in church on sunday and had all sorts of compulsory rules regarding their religion. It was run more like an autocratic cult than a nascent democracy. It’s no wonder they eventually had the witch trails a few decades later. They sure were a jealous and insecure bunch of idiots.

Oh and they stole all the land form the indians.
