1,500 Of You Complained Because Adam Lambert Got Mock Head on TV

lambertleash

Sure, it was a little sexual. But Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Lil Kim have all done much wilder things on television. Doesn't matter: Throw in the gay factor for the 1,500 complaints ABC received for Adam Lambert's American Music Awards performance, which featured mock fellatio and guy-on-guy kissing. ABC calls the number of complaints "moderate." Just like Lambert's guy-on-a-leash trick; that could have been so much more S&M-y.

Our question is: How many calls did ABC receive asking for more?

I love the whole thing – the whole dust up by the people who think they are the moral voice of the universe and that the "sinners" should kiss their ass. Well, no. I called ABC's hotline and told them I loved GaGa and Adam Lambert. And I swear I thought the tuck and roll was on purpose.:D

C'mon I'm all for gay stuff on tv as much as the next guy but simulating oral sex on network television is not the same as britney kissing madonna on cable. It's obviously not as bad as Janet's nipple..but then he's not getting as many complaints either.

I dunno, I have a 12 year old sister and I'm sure she's seen lots of gay and straight kissing but I wouldn't want her to watch this kind of stuff. I wouldnt want some poptart simulating oral sex on my tv either, just to be clear. If Lady Gaga had done it last night I would hope the same amount of complaints would come in. If Christina, Britney or Lil Kim have done stuff like this on network TV than I would want them to get shit for it as opposed to Lambert being allowed to do something like that.

Lambert is just over the top for no good reason, just like Britney, Madonna and the rest. We get it Adam, you're gay, no need to give us a demonstration. The same could be said for most of the antics we see put on display at these events.

Like the Britney spears incident(s) I get the intent to be shocking, but it's really not necessary. He could just give being a better artist a try.

And HAHAHA – the laughs keep coming on this. Gift keeps on giving.

"There was an aggression–a sexual aggression that came across in the performance," said Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Well, no shit, Sherlock, since it's a song about "hurting you real good," pleasure and pain, holding you down until you scream. And did you notice, Mrs. H.,that the dancers were doing a bondage club thing, kinda sorta. Is she really that innocent?

I don't necessarily agree with sleaze. However, it's interesting to note Adam's point about how females are allowed to get away with exploring their sexuality but men aren't. There's definitely a double standard in American society, I'm afraid.

I certainly agree with the whole on network TV arguement and I would hope they at least aired a disclaimer for parents, etc… That said, while I still think he's a mediocre hack, he's at least a more respectable mediocre hack. While this whole "OMG! How scandalous" moment was about as shocking in this day and age as learning Elizabeth Hasselbeck is an ignorant wench, I give him props for putting it out there and, in a sense, saying that we aren't here to help you pick out something to wear and be your best gal pal. We're the full breadth of humanity, from sleazy sex to balancing checkbooks.

First off Queerty peeps: It wasn't 1500 of US who had their panties all bunched up ova Lamberts antics, it was the rightwing-nutbag zealots who all recieved their mass E-mails blasts from FRC who then simply forwarded the preworded "outrage" over Adam's Antics. And was it over the top? of freakin course. Did it accomplish exactaly what Lambert and his team planned? of freakin course. Give Lambert credit, he has created a brand and he is marketing the hell out of it. Proving to all those who say a Gay who is 100% open can't launch a mass career. Even if you hate Lamberts voice give him some support, he has more balls than most of the other 90% of the entertainment industry who are Gay and too ascared to poke their head out of their closets……..

That poor performance of his is driving the complaints, not the homophobia. He does not get an A for effort. He was off key, and looked stupid. It was awful. How can you ask the audience to take the leap with you to fun, dazzling and kinky, when the song is flat, then sharp, then all these characters jump into this munchkinland, mad max mess? Up the stairs down the stairs? why? Yank back on the leash? WTF! S & M mixed with kisses = creepy even in BSDM, like nipple tweaking. Of course the audience lost the connection. It was all over the place and looked unplanned and unprofessional. Fluffy feather shoulderpads! black ballerina skirts! Roll on you side! It was a Thunderdome car wreck.

@ Aaron #10: Yeah, Bowie and Manson were doing it back in the day, but they were also taking pains to go on and on about their wives and girlfriends in interviews.

Was talking to some people who are fairly knowledgeable about the scene, and they had an interesting take on this. A lot of the elements of the persona that Adam is developing are not intended for the American audience at all, starting with the album cover. Asia has a deeply intrenched popular fascination with androgyny, hence the Japanese designer of that cover. So that's a market of about a billion and a half. And, of course, Europe is going to be fascinated with anything in the way of American pop that's pissing off our right-wingers. So far I've mentioned a market of about 2 billion people. Adam has plenty of fans in the Middle East as well, I've heard. They have traditions of his thang as well. A lot of the greatest Arabic and Persian love poetry over centuries is gay gay gay. You think that was just a joke about the Ottomans? LOL And let's not forget about Central and South America. Catholic countries are always way more libidinous with a pssion for the forbidden. Just ask an Italian. LOL

And Adam will play well in the major cities here, cause, hey, most of this country, public moralizing aside, is on the down/low one way or another.

Just watched the show again last night. ALL the songs were mediocre, and, except for GaGa and Adam, all the performances were, too. Watched Adam's spot several times. All the elements were exactly what they should be for the desired effect. The problems were the lighting, the camerawork, and the sound, all of which obscured and muddled the proceedings. Adam did fine. He did exactly what he needed to do to stand out.

You bring up interesting points. And international sales are where the big money and longevity is at. Once America is tired with you, they move on to the next big thing.

The performance was just terrible. Adam needs to watch the pros, then do something better; not a crappy version of what has already been done better, sharper and riskier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22tC0M1MOSI

Brian NJ, we're talking about the 1,500 people who complained because of sexual content, not performance quality.

Hope this helps! Please try to follow the conversation from now on.

P. S. Why do you deserve this kind of reply? Because your line "That poor performance of his is driving the complaints, not the homophobia" is the kind of stupid that only comes from Republicans.

Brian #29, we haven't seen any videos from Adam's album yet, so the jury is still out on that. I've seen lots of Madonna, and, yeah, a lot of what she does shocks and tittilates, but all within an established tradition of such things, even her religious stuff. And, of course, her lesbian stuff is never dangerous. You don't have to see much straight porno to know what turns straight guys on. Nothing that Madonna does is as risky and provocative as what Adam did. Adam can sing and perform, and will be great in planned out videos. The value of what happened Sunday night was in the statement more than the performance. I know enough about Madonna that faced with that kind of REAL risk, she wouldn't take it.

Not all that is gay, glitters. After being screeched at and lambasted by every porn ad in the phone book, of course they are going to get on the phone. It it had been talent up there, I think the sky is the limit.

If the performance was good, I think he could have sold the sexual goods; he would have created something new and daring. It is not called "smashing" for nothing. But wrapped in bad packaging, blow jobs, big open-mouthed kisses, pole dancers, leashes; it was just 100 percent bad provocation. His screeches sounded like a turkey being strangled and masturbated.
