2 Female Albatrosses Have the Audacity to Raise a Baby Chick Together

albatross_egg

Now that gay penguin couple Harry and Pepper are no more, it’s time to turn our attention to a couple of galpalling royal albatrosses — and wannabe moms. The pairing these two female endangered birds isn’t completely unprecedented in Taiaroa Head, New Zealand, home to “the only mainland albatross breeding colony in the world.” Park officials have seen it twice before, although this pair is incubating an egg together. “The two females had shared nesting with a male two seasons ago,” reports GayNZ.com, “but that attempt at nesting was not successful, says the Department of Conservation ranger Lyndon Perriman.” But these two lady birds? They were preening each other’s feathers on the first date.

Thanks for sharing the news! There was also another pair of gay penguin dads recently, this time in South Africa.
