NY FASHION WEEK

5 Things To Look Forward To In And Around New York Fashion Week

Today the biannual glamourfest known as New York Fashion Week blazes into town, leaving in its wake a path of broken stilettos and rolled-up dollar bills. Whether a casual couture critic or a runway regular, these five people, things and virtual places will capture your fashion fancy.

Shirtless Male Models
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. Since it’s fall and fashion is always a season ahead, expect menswear designers to parade the toned torsos—and sometimes a lot more—of male models down the runway for spring. Ah, gratuitous male nudity: a trend that will always (thankfully) be in style.

CR Fashion Book
The rumor mill went into overdrive last year when Carine Roitfeld left (some say was asked to leave ) her post at Vogue Paris, where she had been the controversial editor-in-chief for a decade. But, like a phoenix from the ashes, Roitfeld has risen again—this time as a successful stylist. And she’ll debut her very own magazine during—when else?—Fashion Week. (The premier issue hits stands September 13.) For now, the mag’s website gives a taste of what readers can expect from the provocative Parisienne.

The Brant Brothers
If you don’t know who the Brant Brothers are, let us sum them up in one word: fabulous. The spawn of supermodel Stephanie Seymour and media titan Peter Brant, they’re 21st-century dandies with a flair for fashion and Twitter repartee. Think Paris and Nicky Hilton with class, wit and Y chromosomes.

Peter Jr. is openly gay and as for Harry… Well,  when you’re wearing Alaïa t-shirts and your mom’s Manolo Blahnik loafers as a kid, there’s few other paths to follow than Future Gay Icon. “During Fashion Week, I keep up a healthy and energizing diet of Red Bull, espresso, truffle fries, aspirin, jelly beans and sashimi,” Peter says, adding, “Yes, the emotion you’re experiencing right now is admiration.”

Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution
There’s no better time to premiere a fashion documentary than during Fashion Week: 2011 gave us the sensational Bill Cunningham New York, examining the life of New York’s supreme street-style photographer and this year’s Versailles ’73 chronicles the Grand Divertissement à Versailles, a legendary battle between France’s top couturiers and America’s rising stars that established New York as one of the preeminent fashion capitals. The doc has a limited run at the IFC Center  from September 7 through September 13.

Scandal
Fashion Week is high on a lot of things—most of all drama. Someone’s always throwing a tantrum or dying in the front row or just generally spreading gossip like fat-free grape jelly on a Lender’s bagel. With so many egos vying for attention and with so many open bars and champagne toasts, expect the immaculately manicured claws to come out.
