8.9 Earthquake Sends Massive Tsunami To Japan’s East Coast

A “massive” 8.9 earthquake as struck Japan, sending tsunamis hurtling toward shore and “engulfing” entire towns. Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, the Marshall Islands, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Micronesia and Hawaii have all been put under tsunami warnings. The earthquake, which struck about 20 miles below the earth surface, hit about 250 miles from Tokyo, though residents there felt the tremors.

Most of the damage is being done by the tsunamis, since Japan’s infrastructure is (surprise) built to withstand earthquakes.
