A man wielding a sledgehammer drew attention to himself late last night when he began pounding away at a crosswalk in Center City.
Confused onlookers watched as the man hammered away at the rainbow-colored crosswalk shortly before 10:30 p.m. last evening.
The city installed the rainbow-colored crosswalk last summer as part of an effort to show people that Philadelphia really is a LGBTQ-friendly place despite that awful Kathryn Knott antigay bashing incident that left a stain on its reputation.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
âThere was a man in the middle of the road with a sledgehammer beating the rainbow sidewalks with it,â Michael Depiano, who witnessed the vandalism taking place, told NBC10-TV. âAnother man came up behind and began chiseling with him.â
While pedestrians hurried past the two vandals, Depiano had the good sense to whip out his cellphone and call 911.
By the time a police officer arrived at the scene, however, the vandals had already fled, leaving minor damage to the brightly colored crosswalk in their wake.
Police say they donât have any suspects or motives in the case.

They are probably looking for the pot of golds at the end of the rainbow. Or leprechaun maybe?

The typical community reaction Duh. Its like no one could call 911 when the first idiot started pounding the walk. Wait until its too late and call 911. Real Brains.

I like how this is being presented as a “Funny Ha Ha” story but when somebody attacks a church its the end of the world.

Isn’t the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia this year?
I blame the Republicans.

When I was in Bible College, homosexuals made me furious… I thought nobody would clock me as homosexual if I was loud and angry about gays. Then one of my fellow students, the dudest of the dudes and a preacher’s kid, said, “You sure talk a lot about gays. Is there something you’re trying to say?”
What stupid gay-obsessed freaks. A sledgehammer and chisel against PAINT indicates serious mental defect.

It’s Philadelphia, the thuggest little city on the east coast. What do you expect?

@SteveDenver: OT, just wanted to say that was an awesome anecdote; thanks for sharing. đ

Video would’ve been more useful than immediately calling 911 from a cellphone. Police are slow to react to cellphone calls if they do anything at all. Better to have a video to provide and go to a landline but at the end of the day the reporter was being an idiot anyway. They could’ve attacked him. Why risk your life over something that isn’t life threatening? They attacked a road, big whoop. The amount of energy that takes shows how stupid they both were.

Love how they didn’t figure out paint would be more effective than a chisel or a hammer.
