It may still be the first week of the year, but an early contender for Mom-of-the-year is Ethan’s totally accepting mama.
Ethan, 8, loves Jefree Star (hopefully that’s a phase) and wanted to learn drag makeup.
So his mom brought him into MAC and Ethan sat down with makeup artist Joey Killmeyer, who did the boy right and gave him some killer tips.
Killmeyer shared the fierce finished look, as well as his admiration for Ethan’s mom’s parenting style, via Facebook:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
A couple weeks ago I got my certification in lessons for MAC. Today I got to do my first one. I was not originally scheduled today but was filling in. This is Ethan, he is 8. He wanted to learn drag makeup. He loves Jeffree Starr. His mom is so supportive of him and is letting him discover who he is. I did one side of his face and he did the other. He did soooo great. He is a very talented guy. And I expect he will be a great artist in life. But I was so touched that his mom said I gave him confidence in letting him be himself. And it truly was meant to be that I worked today. It shows me the world is changing from when I was his age and that there is hope for kids who are different. And whether he is gay or not who knows. But I really respect the mom who is letting him be himself and discover who he is and what he wants to do in life. Please share if you like. Spread the message of acceptance. xoxo

I’m conflicted a little bit by this. Yes, very happy this child is being cared for and loved just the way he is. My issue I guess is the make-up is too grown up for a eight year old kid. It sort of reminds me of those little girl beauty pageants.

THIS is REAL gender-nonconformism. To look at society’s stereotypical gender norms and expectations and show them the finger. It’s OK for males to wear make up; it doesn’t make you any less of a boy. You don’t HAVE to abdicate to society’s gender norms to be yourself. Changing your genitals and your body by subjecting it to dangerous chemicals, hormones and surgeries so you can “identify as a girl” to be able to do ‘girly things’ is not only unnecessary: it’s cowardly. Changing your “gender” so you can be yourself is the most extreme form of conformism. Kudos to this brave boy.

Ugh, awful.

NO!!

I don’t think an 8 year old (boy or girl) should be wearing makeup. It’s very JonBenét Ramsey.
And dear lord, Jeffree Starr???

@Scribe38: It was about DRAG makeup not about a Daddy-please-wipe-me doll
Kangol
He’s lucky to have such a loving and understanding mother! I wish him the very best in life, and her continued support as he grows up.
Miss Understood
Oh grow up! It just for fun, he’s not walking the streets looking for sailors.
The kiddy pageant stuff is different because those kids are competing and being held up to standard. Toddlers are concerned about their weight, they are pressured to win, etc. This is just dress up.
Mandrake
This is all fine if it’s just a lark. The boy obviously enjoyed it, but to promote a sense of transgender or drag queen identity for him when he’ only 8 is wrong! He hasn’t even reached puberty yet. He’s more likely influenced by media entertainment than any sense of gender confusion.

@Mandrake: I still hate the idea of making an 8-year-old boy look like a dockside hooker, but…you’re right. It really might not be much different than the kids who had fun putting on KISS makeup.
Scribe38
@NoCagada: I get that… it just looks sexualized to me and I don’t think that is cool for a 8 yr old. If he is transgendered or just likes drag, I think there is a better, less sexual way to go about it. I also have issues with little girls dressed up this way for pageants.

@Scribe38: I’m with you on both points. He couldn’t hope for a better mother but the make-up at eight years old? That’s kinda young for boys OR girls. I think it’s good for him to have gone through this, though. It will inspire him.
Captain Obvious
So we’re sexualizing 8 year olds now? And we can’t say anything about it because people have an androgyny agenda?
This is really getting ridiculous and proving the point of the hateful Republicans honestly. Enough is enough people really need to learn when something is going way too far.
Dressing kids up like hookers is sick I really don’t care how many excuses are made for it.
Giancarlo85
I think… the make-up could have been a bit more natural and subtle. One doesn’t need to go overboard with it. That’s just my opinion. I don’t wear make-up as it can mess up my skin. Too much can cause break-outs.

Unless he was using one that wouldn’t clog the pours… but most products do.
@jayj150: You really have no clue what you’re talking about. How is taking hormones cowardly? Do you know anybody that does? Or are you just spouting out of your rear once again on this subject?
No. “Wearing” make-up is not “REAL” gender nonconformism. It could be a factor, but it certainly isn’t the main part of gender nonconformism. And what do you know about gender nonconforming people?
@Captain Obvious: Glad to see you’re kissing republican butt. Take one story and get hysterical.
Giancarlo85
@Giancarlo85: *pores lol.
Captain Obvious
@Giancarlo85: I see your meds aren’t working. Keep living on Queerty.

HORRIFYING
Tobi
@Captain Obvious: +1 I too find this apparently accepted sexualising of children very creepy, not only in this case, but the fact that boy an girl beauty pageants exist for kids this age and younger. Ugh. 🙁

A different look could have been done, something more outlandish, fun and non sexualized: Wayland Flowers’ Madame, or the ultimate drag queen:

Yahoo CEO, Marissa Meyer has gone som far as to Support the practice “Work at home” that I have been doing since last year.
