On the decision to have ESPN identify his boyfriend, actor Matthew Wilkas, during the televised broadcast:
“I thought I’d never see the day when they announced ‘Kenworthy’s boyfriend.’ I just didn’t even think it was possible. I had a boyfriend but, of course, no one knew that. I was too embarrassed to bring him up, which is kinda messed up.”
On what it was like to be in the closet at the Sochi Olympics:
“I wasn’t out. My boyfriend and I weren’t able to hold hands or be affectionate anywhere, so at Sochi, it wasn’t entirely different. We weren’t being open or honest anyway,” he says. “I think, looking back, it’s one of the reasons we didn’t work out.”

Okay, Queerty… it’s feeling forced now, with the stories on him. I will say he is damn cute and has a great body, especially the first and second pics. But, it feels like the goal with Kenworthy is less about being a face for LGBT athletes and more about getting that fame. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s just a little disingenuous.

@Jeremy Kinser: I don’t think those links help make your point as much as you think they do. Most of those guys listed were still fit or thin, they just weren’t as tone. You also have to compare those few articles with the avalanche of white fit gay and straight men you highlight daily.

@stranded: This comment made my response for me. Thanks! Those articles were posted over the course of a year and a half.
The ones worshiping straight men? Extremely fit (white) men, youth, twinks? That shit’s every day. Multiple times a day.
@Xzamilio: Genetically, people like Kenworthy are predisposed to that kind of body type. Others are not blessed with that, and will never look like such unless taken to absolute extremes. So yeah, for large sections of the population, it is unattainable. That is not to say people with different genetics and body types can’t become muscular, or ripped, but getting it to look like that is far more difficult*.
Yet, body types like Kenworthy are extremely overrepresented here on queerty and really everywhere devoted to queer men/mascs.

@A.R.D.: Stop eating junk food, and ice cream and all other sugar, and go to the gym at least 3 times a week, and you will see the results. Nothing is unattainable, it’s just a matter of how much you are ready to work for it.

@A.R.D.: Citation needed. And even if it is “far more difficult”, it’s still not impossible. It honestly sounds like you’re making excuses. I’ve heard the “genetics” line a lot, and when pressed, none can actually present any credible evidence to support this. Body types like Kenworthy are presented here on Queerty, and frankly in most major publications that cater to gay AND straight demographics…. fit women and fit men are aesthetically pleasing. Even rolly pollies like me don’t want to look at other rolly pollies in magazines

Queerty is the equivalent of British tabloid newspapers: Some news, some fun stuff and their play on Page 3 girls – Lots and lots of cute young guys. There are plenty of websites on the interweb that cater to individual tastes, give them a try.
