"A 19-year-old was jailed today for life, with a minimum non-parole period of 15 years, for the slaying of a gay man. Andre Gilling was found guilty by a jury in July of the December 2006 murder of Stanley Waipouri, 39, at a flat in Palmerston North. It was the same sentence that was handed down last year to his co-accused Ashley Arnopp who admitted the charge." The men apparently beat poor Waipouri for an entire hour. They also cut off the tip of his penis and ear after he had died. That's some sick shit. [Stuff]

A New Zealand jury sure is hung:

There has been a hung jury in the murder trial of a teenager accused of murdering a gay Palmerston North man Stanley Waipouri (pictured).

The jury deliberated for nearly 11 hours on the charges against Andre Gilling, but was unable to reach a verdict.

The 18-year-old has been remanded in custody until February 5.

Gilling's co-accused, 21-year-old Ashley Arnopp, earlier this week changed his plea and has been convicted of murdering 39-year-old Mr Waipouri in his flat last December.

Arnopp will be sentenced in February. Gilling will, well, get a new trial.

We've heard some fucked up shit in our seemingly endless day, but a queer case out of New Zealand may take the cake:

An unusual murder trial has begun in Palmerston North with the victim, a gay man, allegedly both beaten and bitten to death.

The Crown says Andre Gilling and Ashley Arnopp took part in a frenzied attack that saw some of the victim Stanley Waipouri's ear and genitalia bitten off.

Police say Gilling had blood on his mouth and clothes.

The Crown claims the men were high on a mix of party pills and alcohol at the time.

Those pills, Arnopp says, were adrenalin, which gave the gruesome duo the energy to "power on" for hours as the mutiliated 39-year-old Stanley Waipouri. Cops later found Gilling and Arnopp covered in Waipouri's blood. The men must believe in miracles, because they've claim to be "not guilty".
