When Mr DeMint was elected senator, it was also the same cycle that brought SC the hetero only Marriage Amendment to its constitution (Nov 2005). That spring of 2006, my husband was unceremoniously thrown to the curb and fired from a very prominent private school in SC, after 25 years of service. DeMint is from this same town or a cheap suburb thereof. In fact the man had office space in the same building as my husband's father. In fact my partner knows DeMint and I am quite sure the ass in some way had a connection to my hubby's demise. You must remember, if politics in washington is incestual, then the same in South Carolina makes Oedepus look like a childrens book. Throw in that gay bishop, Robinson. The director of the Palmetto Family Council, which spearheaded the “amendment”, was a vestry member at the church connected with my partner’s school. Add the fact that my hubby’s replacement had been found and hired before we had been given our hat. Also may I mention that the church rector was looking to become bishop of Virginia. And you have a perfect storm of hate brewing to get us gone. What makes me mad about this?? Not that DeMint is a bigot. Not that we were exiled from SC. Its that I know more than what I say here. I wrote names and facts to Gene Robinson, The Advocate, The New York Times, The Southern Poverty Law Center, Lambda Legal, and so on and so on. You know what response I got? Nothing.
