A Gay Rap Opera … Musical?

That’s what the new show Bash’d is all about. Meet Feminem and T-Bag, two talented Canadian rappers who tell the love story of a city boy and a country fella and what happens when, well, you read the title of the show. Perhaps you can guess what the drama’s all about? [Jossip]

I saw this show last friday night and it was AMAZING! I too was concerned about a “gay rap opera,” but it’s so well-written and tightly performed, it really comes off as music to your ears. This is a definite must see for NYC gays. There’s a great review of it at http://www.nytheatre.com/nythe.....t=bash6749

I must admit I went to this show prepared to not like it. But … it was FANTASTIC. I’m not a huge rap fan, but these guys were so clever and fun, and the story-telling was amazing. I laughed, I cried. I was forced to acknowledge my peconceived jaded prejudices.

“Bash’d” is a phenomenal project with the potential to reach a wide audience that knows little about homophobia or the gay scene.

I loved the song–set to “Sweet Dreams” beat–that tags all the different cliques found at a gay club, kinda like a Gay 101. Could have been cliche, but it was hilarious and fresh.

(Sidenote: um Jonny McGovern never actually raps; it’s just a personae.)
