In New York City, some 100,000 women “engage in anal intercourse each year,” which is a lot of buttholes for researchers to count. But unlike gay New York men, who use condoms 61 percent of the time (that’s it?), straight girls letting their pooper act as sexual stimuli for straight guys’ dongs use condoms just 31 percent of the time, says the city’s Health Department.
Also, women who don’t use condoms during anal sex also get tested for HIV less frequently than women who use them. Which makes sense, because stupid people tend to do stupid things more often than people who are not stupid. [via]

1. With respect, statistics can be made to say whatever you
like. What I’m reading is that roughly 31,000 of (I’m assuming
female) women in NYC who engage in anal sex (yearly) actually
use a condom. An ill-advised and completely foolish move, definitely.
What I’m not hearing are the figures on the gay male community
in NYC. Furthermore, if we’re going to talk condoms and HIV
testing rates- what are the stats that community? (Furthermore
do these stats account for all types of sex, including oral, in
relation to HIV testing rates? Many omit oral sex from their figures.)
2. “Also, women who don’t use condoms during anal sex also get tested for HIV less frequently than women who use them. Which makes sense, because stupid people tend to do stupid things more often than people who are not stupid.”
Is this in reference to women exclusively in NYC, or is this
a national statistic? Also, how much less frequently do these
women get tested? It isn’t made clear in either your reference
(the Daily News) or in this story.
3. “But unlike gay New York men, who use condoms 61 percent of the time (that’s it?), straight girls letting their pooper act as sexual stimuli for straight guys’ dongs use condoms just 31 percent of the time…”
Why are we assuming all of these heterosexual partnerships are made up of exclusively straight women, and furthermore why are they suddenly being referred to as “girls?” Is that intentionally derogatory?

I love you Queerty, but as a faithful reader I expect more.

And I expect more from my peeps out there taking it up the bum. SIXTY ONE PERCENT? That’s ridiculous, man. You other thirty nine percent have got to get a better idea of yourselves and know that you are WORTH being safe!
Baxter
Why would any woman want to have anal sex?
Fitz
@SugNight: It is possible that one or two of those BB encounters are with same-status monogamous partners.
Fitz
@Baxter: To avoid getting knocked up. But yeah, I agree— having a magic button (prostate) makes it worth it. Without it, I can’t see it.

And still feminists maintain that women are better than men, sigh …

@Baxter: As a woman, I can promise you there are nerve endings that get stimulated in interesting and fun ways during anal sex for at least some of us. Not all women enjoy it, but some of us do. And yes, unless it’s my husband with whom I am fluid-bonded, the rascal is wrapped down there. No two ways about that.

In some cases, for the same reason that some men are bottoms, but then there are the Christians – it seems that some younger Christian women who have taken “virginity pledges” think they are not violating their pledges if they have anal sex. They figure they are still virgins as long as a certain membrane stays intact.
It may sound silly, but as they say, any port in a storm.

@B: You mean conditional virgins? Here is an example of one

How about telling this to those New York Women who don’t use them consistently? Articles like this (99% statistics) on this topic are utterly useless, especially to those who claim they are “safe” all the time. At best, these reports stir up those who like to gossip about the lives of others.
