A Little Late?

“Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese met with a handful of transgender activists in Atlanta last week and apologized for “misspeaking” at last year’s Southern Comfort conference, where he promised HRC would only support an Employment Non-Discrimination Act that included gender identity, according to people attending the meeting… HRC supports including gender identity in ENDA, but urged Congress members to vote in favor of [Barney] Frank’s sexual orientation-only bill as an incremental strategy.” [SoVo]

Now that the Georgia Gay and Trans communities have been reconciled, I predict this united force will deliver the entire Georgia congressional delegation to vote for an ENDA that leaves no one behind. Together, we win!

Don’t bet that, Konrad. I don’t know of any T people who have forgiven Solmonese for his lie, or HRC for its behavior last fall. He didn’t misspeak, he lied. There is a big difference, especially because Solmonese fundraised on the basis of that lie. 5 people in a room in Atlanta, particularly when none of them are known outside Atlanta, without the 3 best known and regarded T activists from Atlanta present (Monica Helms, Kristin Reichman, and Dana Owings), and without a polygraph machine or operator present, is not a reconciliation with the T community.
