Actress Amber Heard (on left), who you might know from Pineapple Express, Zombieland, and the upcoming Johnny Depp flick The Rum Diary, made her official coming out as a lesbian at GLAAD’s 25th anniversary party. Walking the red carpet with partner Tasya van Ree, the actress said she wondered if staying in the closet meant she was contributing to “millions of hard-working, tax paying Americans” being denied their rights. “I think GLAAD is one of the many reasons that I, as a 24-year-old, can come out.” Welcome home, lady!
She’s also starring in John Carpenter’s forthcoming The Ward, which I’m really excited about (really excited about Rum Diary too)!
AFAIK, her star’s on the rise and definitely not in the place – career-wise – that you would unfortunately expect most stars who come out to be. ie. she doesn’t need the extra press and she undoubtedly had a lot of interested parties counselling her against coming out.
So this is a very brave thing to do. Good for her x
