Afternoon Aural: Armi and Dany

Homo-journo Dan Avery sent us this video of Finnish popsters Armi and Dany. Writes Avery, “These Finns can’t sing so well, but the choreography is fierce!” Agreed, although we’d like to say there’s a charm to this awesomely bad song. Sort of like watching grandma doing karaoke.

This was a huge hit in Finland when I was a small kid, but of course sang in Finnish. The girl, Armi, had been crowned as Miss Finland earlier that year, in 1977, and this song probably was the biggest thing she ever achieved.

She had a pretty sad life, since she became alcoholic and died in 2002; she was only 43 years old.
