Afternoon Aural: Neil Diamond

By now you’ve heard that Neil Diamond wrote “Sweet Caroline” not for a lover, as many have imagined, but for a young Caroline Kennedy. Despite the fact that Diamond’s admission puts the legendary track in a whole new – and creepy – light, we still think it’s tops.

We’ve also included a 1984 performance of “Coming To America” which features two awesome things. One: Princess Diana. Two: Diamond’s blouse. It’s radical.

Neil wrote the song in 1969, Caroline Kennedy was born in 1957. Well, in some states it’s okay… As Hillary would say, let the states decide.
