Afternoon Aural: The Satintones

Oh, man! We have just made the discovery of a lifetime! The Satintones were one of Motown Records’ first all male acts. They may not be as famous as some of their peers, ie: The Miracles, but their upbeat reinvention of “Shake Me, Wake Me” deserves a little extra recognition. It’s the best thing we’ve seen in a long, long time.

The Satintones were there at Hitsville in ’59 & ’60, when Berry Gordy was only beginning to build in Detroit what would eventually become that city’s musical Mt. Rushmore. When you’re lucky enough to even find an old Satintones 45 on eBay, your wallet better be heavy.
