Oh, Huffington Post. Taking one spelling error-riddled, nearly two-week-old blog post from actor and two-year-old U.S. citizen Alan Cumming and acting like it speaks for the entire gay community’s feelings toward the president. It’s almost as bad as Joe Solmonese pretending whatever weak coffee he drinks is also imbibed by every other gay. Or the Drudge Report taking the words of a Republican operative as inarguable fact. Or at least it would be, were Cumming’s sentiments not marred in … truth, because it seems many of you are frustrated with this Barack person?

Alan Cumming may have passed the citizenship test, but he seems to know diddly squat about American politics…then again neither do most Americans.
Polyboy
Unh. Ariana Huffington needs to stop letting interns write front page news.

The one thing I learned from the HuffPo article is that Obama doesn’t have a magic wand.
playasinmar
Oh, the irony of Queerty identifying a blog post as “spelling error-riddled!”

I’m celebrating our marriage equality, DOMA and the end of DADT now that Obama has become “fierce”. Oh, wait. Those are things that Obama has not lifted a finger to help – or is either outright against.
But, this Republican-acting President is for:
The Republican health-insurance plan first pushed by Nixon.
Continued exclusion of LGBT Americans in the military.
Deepwater AND shallow oil drilling in the Gulf.
Continued war in Iraq.
Continued war in Afghanistan.
Increased war in Pakistan.
Increased funding for Bank/Financial Bailouts.
No investigation of the Bush Administration.
No investigation of the cause of the Financial meltdown.
And it goes on and on…
Do you think more of the same is change? Remember, doing the exact same thing and expecting different results is the definition of what … a smart person!?!
Don’t be fooled. Obama is the tool that the Republicans are going to use to destroy Social Security. This President is owned, lock-stock-and-barrel, by the rich, straight, white people who own the corporations. We need to realize that just because you put a (D) behind your name, does not mean you do the right thing.

Please explain to me the part of “AMerican Politics” that require an administration to force one House member to retract their pro-gay rights bill, then when confronted with a House speaker who informs them that a gay rights bill is coming whether they like it or not, inserts hurdles and opt outs for those rights including removing any anti-discrimination language.
I’ll give you a lesson on American politics. Dems aren’t having a struggle this election cylcle because they were too liberal, they are polling lower than they should because their base is frustrated with them for not trying.
Justin
Obama sold us “hope” and we bought it. That’s all you get in politics. The people claiming “broken promises” have no idea how politics works. Obama doesn’t have a magic-wand or pixie dust. Grow up.
Wayne
Magic Wand? No. But does Obama have a “stop loss” power to end the discriminatory discharges through DADT but he refused to use it, and then went on to defend DOMA and DADT in court – SEVERAL TIMES.

I find it amazing that the GOP can put out their “Contract with America” and get everything done on that in their first 100 days in office with a smaller majority than the DEMS now have, and that George Bush with a much smaller majority in the Congress than the DEMS now have can get his agenda through, and Bill Clinton with the GOP controlling Congress can get part of his agenda through….
But that we are somehow asking Obama the impossible to keep any of his promises when he has the largest majority in both chambers in recent history.
If a politician will never work on keeping their promises, then we might as well just elect our favorite Hollywood celeb to the Presidency, because apparently according to you, the job is all about putting on a good show.
the crustybastard
@Kev C:
Indeed. But these “magic wands” are only required in the context of gay equality. Everything else on the president’s agenda can be advanced by ordinary political processes.

@playasinmar: Damn you stole my thunder!!! That was some nerve on Queerty’s part. The fact-check, spell-check deficient blog.

If you’re not willing to punish the Dems when they don’t stand up for you, don’t be surprised when they call your bluff and stick you under the bus.
Syl
@playasinmar: Lol. Noticed the that too.
Srsly, wtf, Queerty? Jumping on old Alan for saying what a lot, if not most of us are already saying? What, are us gays, like the blacks (ie Juan Williams) not supposedly to speak ill of our Democratic masters? Or will doing so prompt Obama to tell us to “get to the back of the bus”?
jason
Obama is a fraud, period. He saw us as a bunch of votes and a bunch of ATM machines. We were stupid enough to fall for this fraud.
Obama might think that this anger will pass but he’s mistaken. I see gay people’s anger toward him extending well into the lead up to the 2012 election. It’s not beyond possible that gay anger will drive him from office after just one term. He’s opened up a can of worms by treating us in an appalling way.
klarth@twitter
@Jason I won’t say it will literally drive him from office, but we probably aren’t going to help him. His was a patchwork coalition in the first place, and missing our piece will definitely hurt him, which makes his seeming indifference/indecision/whatever on the issue baffling. Either he’s trying to not alienate some segment of his power base that outweighs us, or he really has personal issues about gay rights. *sigh*
A friend to our people, indeed.
