Andy Rooney, National Clueless Treasure

Anyone who has managed to avoid the institutions known as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber deserves to be added to a historically protected list.

How old is this man? I didn’t even know he was still alive!

I will never forget the episode where he had the lyrics to Michael Jackson’s “Bad” written on a chalkboard, and read them as poetry, redundancies and all. Priceless. Unfortunately, it is not on YouTube.

For god’s sake, will SOMEBODY in the make-up department PLEASE do something about his eyebrows? I’m not saying pluck them out so he looks like a Jersey Shore/Drag Wannabe. I’m just saying that they should tone down the “English Sheepdog” thing he has going.

He must be a wealthy old coot who doesn’t do his own shopping. The malls and grocery stores are always pumping Gaga and that kid too.

OH Andy, this was so cute it made me smile last night. he sure knows how to play the “clueless old man card” pretty well.
props to him for being the male version of Betty White.

Proud to say i have both lady gaga and ella fitzgerald on my itunes. Apparently, not too hard to be musically versed in the past 100 years.

Does 60 Minutes realize what this piece says about their news program?

in defense of Andy I know many people over 25 who still don’t know who Justin Bieber is. the kid just started to break out of the tween market a couple months ago. Many people over 40 (other than gays) don’t know Lady Gaga. Part of this is caused by digital downloading of singles and MTV or VH1 not playing music videos anymore. As for him not knowing Usher that is just odd seeing that he has had a career for over a decade.

Hearing something at the mall hardly means you’re listening to it, much less that you’ll have any idea who the singer is.

I had no idea who Justin Bieber was until now actually, and I am a 31-year old gay man. I do know who Lady Gaga is, but I don’t have any of her music as it really isn’t my thing.

As scary as it might be, there are some of us who really don’t follow or care to follow pop culture in any way. My musical tastes tend to gravitate towards geeky and little-known groups.

So, as someone who views pop culture with disdain, do I deserve to be on said historically protected list as well?

Rooney’s no Betty White. Before you get all misty-eyed over this old fart, he famously did a rant against gay people on 60 Minutes several year ago. When he was called on it, he pleaded “being Irish” and said he couldn’t change the way he was and didn’t want to. He got a pass on it, cause he’s so cute and all. Total homophobe and total old fart. I look forward to the day when those eyebrows eat him alive.

I am 33 and I love Ella. Maybe I live in a world full of house music, pop, blues, and jazz. My own special world…. ;)

      Me: 27
      Love: Ella
      Couldn’t Care Less About: Gaga

But then again if I had lived in his time (when FDR was President) I wouldn’t have had easy access to the music from 50 years ago, but there would have been enough good stuff that I wouldn’t miss it.

@romeo: Good call on Andy Rooney’s homophobia.

And I agree about those eyebrows. Who does he think he is, Leonid Brezhnev?
