Director Ang Lee just can’t stop making gay films! There was Brokeback Mountain, and we’re pretty sure Hulk was a porno. Now he’s finally getting around to Taking Woodstock, which tackles the 1969 festival that’s “haunted” Lee for a decade. But back in 2007, reports Entertainment Weekly, he ran in to Elliot Tiber (who created the festiva) backstage at a talk show. Tiber gave Lee his one-minute elevator pitch, and Lee was hooked. So here’s the new trailer for Taking Woodstock, which stars Demetri Martin (yes, that guy) as Tiber, along with Liev Schreiber, Emile Hirsch, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. One thing you might miss from the movie? Tiber was a big ‘mo! Planning Woodstock is when he has his big revelation. But after Brokeback, Lee and writer-producer James Schamus are toning down the homoerotics, so don’t expect a drugged-up gay orgy in the back of a VW buss. Says Schamus to EW: “If Brokeback Mountain was about the tragedy of gay lives in an oppressive society, and Milk was about the triumph of coming out, Woodstock simply asks: ‘What’s the hang up? Join the party.'”

Liev Schreiber is in drag. You can’t get any gayer than that. We know Elliot Tiber is gay, and the film will acknowledge it. What more do we want?
I think there are more important matters to discuss, like when will Liza Minnelli release another greatest hits album.
The Gay Numbers
The story is about him setting up woodstock. So when you say its not about him being gay that’s literally true. But not accurate as to the story of the film and book. If they show him as gay,t hen why do we need more than that since it’s not the story. The only real issue is where they lie about sexuality. Not where that sexuality is not the thrust of the story.

There is no such thing as a gay film. If there was, there’d be a dating service for it. My theory is that some gay commentators are so desperate to call everything “gay”, they trip over themselves and get their feet stuck in their mouths as they attempt to label and stereotype everything they see.
There are plenty of heterosexuals in Ang’s new film. Why aren’t you calling it straight?

Wasn’t Woodstock all about celebrating freedom through sex? How can you tell the story of Woodstock and it’s gay founder and tone down the gay sex. i’m sure there are going to be plenty of straight sex scenes so the gay ones should be depicted as well.

It seems like it’s more about the concert than the main character’s sexuality. It’s good to know that he’s gay though. I would never insult Ang Lee though. Brokeback was incredible. He probably just wants to be seen as an artist, and not automatically associated with homosexual movies. That carries a lot of weight, and could undermine his craft. He’s done a lot for the community though, and from the looks of it, he still is.

The story is about how he organized the event to save his parent’s property.I believe its based on a book by the same title. It’s not about sex. Maybe the solution here is to read what the story is about rather than asking questions like wasn’t Woodstock about sexual liberation.
