Another Christopher Street Closing

First came the upcoming closure of the nation's oldest gay bookstore Oscar Wilde at 15 Christopher Street in New York's West Village, and now another neighborhood closing. [hus], a trendy Scandinavian clothing shop at 11 Christopher Street that we regularly patronized, is closing March 1.

Oh no. Its the only place I know of in the states to get Tiger of Sweden and Bjorn Borg underwear. I always head to HUS when in NYC. I guess I'll need to schedule an extra trip to Stockholm this year. Was such a cool store, really sad. Thanks for posting this David.

actually the oldest gay bookstore was founded in 1642 on a small street in New Amsterdam (currently NYC). The original building can still be found. I forget what its called, but a few years ago, on an expedition for a major pleasure distributor, I did find an old dildo hidden in the floor. It was made of wood, but damn it if I didn't shed a tear thinking of the bravery of my queer ancestors.

I wonder what they'll find in the floor of oscar wilde in the future, oh yeah thats right, lesbo veg mags and gay marriage cake books.

No in all seriousness… nah forget it.

The weather was warm today so I thought I would walk down christopher street.

I saw business after business with more employees than customers. The bars all had signs out on the street saying more or less come in and drink free (2 for 1 until closing, any vodka $3.50 until closing). I feel for everyone out there. Things are bad and we have yet to hit bottom.
