See, once McCain bragged about his 90% voting record agreeing with Bush, I hardly paid attention to anything else the man said. And, of course, McCain 200 was a little different from McCain 2008. A little. Not much.

Senator McCain campaigned for a state ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions in 2006, and supported a state ban on same-sex marriage (all of them, actually) in 2008. He is opposed to ENDA and I think the hate crimes legislation. He promised to appoint conservative judges. He also promised to revisit his opposition to the federal marriage amendment if a federal court struck down DOMA or a state ban on same-sex marriage or civil unions. This was before he selected the Moose Killer for his VP. So it was always fictional.

He didn’t, however, seem to have any hang ups with gay people on a personal level. Which, for a Republican, I suppose, is saying something.

Well, McCain was flirtatious with the Log Cabin’s, to be sure, even in 2000. Of course, once he chose the Wasilla cunt all bets were off…I mean, LGBT rights were the least of McCain’s issues.

(And for the record, I still think that it was Mark Buse that delivered all that juicy tea on Sarah Palin to the press. That tea was way too catty not to have come from a gay man, that’s my opinion and I am stcking with it.)

He donated to Bill Richardson also but Richardson believes that being gay is a choice, he was not good on gay issues AT ALL.

But Richardson also endorsed Obama AND is a POC so…

@atdleft: I’ve never really understood that phrase, “hold his feet to the fire.” I just find it really funny that, speaking as someone who donated the minimum amount before public reporting kicks in, and as someone who has been fairly critical of a number of his positions since even before the primary, I’ve become a “shill” because I can see that most of this is just whining and imbalanced.

And EVEN GayPatriot had praise for Obama and his handling of the pirate situation.

I am about a 1/4 of the way through Garrow’s “Bearing the Cross,” a history of King and the SCLC. I had been reading Meb Segrest’s “Memoir of a Race Traitor,” a collection of essays about a white lesbian who organized against KKK activity in North Carolina in the 1980′s. She makes the connections between racism, sexism, and homophobia and makes the case for coalitions with African Americans for LGBT’s.

I left the book somewhere or another, and, as it;’s out of print, I had to order a new used copy from Powell’s.

On that OTHER issue…

I noticed that other activity (linked on another thread) happened before…Hurricane Gustav touched down in Louisiana. Up to that point, insofar as strictly LGBT issues are concerned, “that one” wasn’t an enemy, per se. But once Minneapolis happened…

That’s why I am reading up of histories of the black civil rights movements and even gay civil rights (ACT UP, etc.); not to learn any pithy comments to to get clued in on strategies, methods, and the rhetoric of protest.

Queerty is hardly perfect, but given the brutality against gays in Uganda, even without the partnership between Obama pallRick Warren and a psychotic Ugandan homohater, the question was a reasonable one to raise, just as the Administration’s silence about gay murders in Iraq.

Further, almost every thread topic of late has followed current events that Queerty didn’t create.

Did they convince Jon Stewart to mock Obama’s DADT continuation? [I'm not even certain they covered Howard Stern's doing the same, but, regardless, ya think Queerty asked him to?]

How about those challenges day after day by members of the White House press corps about Obama’s mute paralysis on DADT and DOMA because events across the country, AGAIN not initiated by Queerty keep escalating. I don’t see anyone complaining about all their marriage equality posts that DON’T mention Obama.

Etc., etc., etc. Have you checked out other popular gay blogs? Pam Spaulding, JoeMyGod, David Mixner, Towleroad? They are talking about the same things, calling out Obama more and more forcefully, too. It can seem disproportionate at Queerty because they do more updates in a single day than the other sites. But, again, unless you can document that Queerty is making shit up for an excuse to criticize Obama rather than reporting, commenting upon what already exists out there that’s relevant, why are you agree with the Obambots who defend only to defend.

When Queerty does something like, “Obama refuses to wear Calvin’s because he hates fag designers” I’ll complain, too.

In the meantime, the words of Pam Spaulding, a GIGANTIC supporter of Obama over Hillary in the primaries, describe the situation perfectly: “he is getting caught in his own trap.”

It’s hardly Queerty’s fault that something happens almost daily, like this revelation of another promise betrayal in his budget. to set it off.

And, by the way, in the chilling Orwellian Newsspeak that Obama Inc. utilizes more and more, his spokesperson claims that banning funds for needle exchange in his budget is NOT the same as abandoning needle exchange, “but is simply not moving on the issue yet.”

Allowing gays to be discharged when you could easily stop it without Congressional repeal, refusing to help reduce new HIV infections with needle exchange….it’s all in a day’s work in Obamatopia.

HIV and slowing the spread should be at the top of any gay agenda with this administration, IMO.
