Looking creator Andrew Haigh has some words for opinionated gays who never gave the show a chance:
“A lot of people seemed to talk about it without actually watching it. So many people said ‘I didn’t watch your show, I didn’t like it’, but they’d admit they barely watched the pilot. So you’re making a judgment on two seasons of a show after watching just five minutes, and turning it off because somebody was being jerked off in a wood and you didn’t like what that said about gay people.”

If this was 1986 and Looking was on tv, in the middle of the aids crisis, it would have had the impact of the movie “Parting Glances” (gay people some how managing to be ordinary in the middle of hysteria). But, as we saw,
aping Parting Glances in 2014 didn’t go over as being all that revolutionary. And, if you haven’t seen Parting Glances or if you haven’t seen it recently, watch it. It is hard NOT to conclude that Parting Glances was in fact what Looking was aiming for.
