Anti-Gay Group Acquiesces To 1913 Repeal

The Massachusetts Family Institute fought long and hard to stop same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. That said, one would think they right-wing group would be on board to prevent out-of-state gays from marrying within their borders. But they are not.

Said President Kris Mineau:

By the time the measure reaches the ballot in 2010, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of out-of-state, same-sex couples already will have married in Massachusetts.

More importantly, even if the referendum effort were successful at the ballot in 2010, this governor and this Legislature — bent on exporting the same-sex marriage experiment — could easily pass another repeal in 2011.

Now that the group’s kind of accepted gay marriage, maybe they can start to like the gays.

Plus it is kind of a PR disaster to be defending “Jim Crow” laws. It highlights the fact that intolerant people hate everyone. It is not just an accident that antisemites and white supremacists are also fiercely anti-gay.
