Can anyone tell me what a “solidophile” is – as reported by BBC Wales?

I’ve a long career in digging holes and tunneling and I’ve never heard of the term.

Does it have to do with “going over the top”?

Sadly, I’m still none the wiser..

It’s the sort of word you feel should exist – yet it’s obviously been overlooked.

Although the Judge is clearly an idiot – the reporter who then wrote [SIC] afterwards has caused me (and others) angst – simply because if I don’t know what a “solidophile” is, how am I able to understand if I might be a “solidophobe”?

Example: If you buy a bed with a firm mattress – are you a solidophile? If you buy a waterbed – are you a solidophobe?

Note to self: I really must get more.

solidophiles ??.. never heard of it but…with lateral thinking..i may have the answer. !
The ‘little minded man ‘ with obvious limited education could be using spelling the word paedophile as ‘pee’ dophile..taking it as reference to front entry. This would translate,,in his tiny little brain to a differnt name for ‘ rear entry ‘…he used ‘ solid ‘ ophile… Does that make any sense ?

Hmm. The “sic” in square brackets there is in the story as it appears on the BBC website (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7333209.stm), and no doubt in the ICWales news site you sw it on, so they were wondering, too, about this word “solidophile”. So was I when I blogged it at http://ptt-blog.blogspot.com/2.....hiles.html. The his it gets now when I Google the word are from people like you and me, who have queried it and so contributed to its viral-like multiplication in cyberspace.
