Freshman Maryland State representative Tiffany T. Alston voted against statewide marriage equality but she totally supports using $3,560 in campaign funds to help pay for her own wedding.
That’s why the Maryland State Prosecutor has currently placed a felony indictment against her for misuse of campaign funds that could result in 10 years prison time. She denies the charges, but at least she’s got a husband to help console her during this rough period—something she wouldn’t give the LGBT citizens of her state.
How totally fair and balanced of the ever-fair Queerty to omit the party affiliation of this homophobic thief, because of course she’s a Republican, right? I mean, she voted against gay marriage, so naturally she’s of the homophobic GOP, right? Right? Oh waaaaaaaaait a second, that’s right—she’s a Democrat! How convenient for this article to overlook this small factor. Had she been of the conservative persuasion, you can bet your ass that would have been the first or second word of the headline. Hypocrisy, thy name is Queerty.
·
Hypocrisy? You, Politically Incorrect Thug, voted for John McCain even though he ran on an anti-LGBT Equality campaign, and yet you come on here every day to complain about Democrats that don’t do enough for LGBT people.
you don’t care enough about LGBT Equality to vote on it, yet you care enough to come on here every day to complain about the Democrats not doing enough…even though you voted for a man who would have not only done less, but actually worked hard to UNDO the good that has been done.
That’s hypocrisy. You only care about LGBT Equality when it allows you to criticize “liberals”, even though you continue to give your vote to anti-gay Conservatives.
this is why guys like you never win actual respect and acceptance from your families – it’s not because you’re gay, but because you’re such cowardly little doormats about it.
·
U knowd bein a sista an all dat I understands she wannton a fine all up in duh hoods weddin an all dat. She iz a woman and she liktedid her menz and dats wots god wood wont from all ub us. howebba she did break a commandment and I thinks she kood jus pray toda lawd an all will be fogibben. At leez she aint bumpin no pussy. Go on Girl !
·
You’re right the truth of the matter is there are SOME key word some democrats who are against gay rights and marriage. But its a rarity in all honesty I notice it comes far more from the right then the left .
·
Hey the Feds bankroll the state of MD as it is… why not let her use her campaign funds to pay for her wedding. I mean $3.5K? A drop in the bucket…Nothing will happen to her.
·
The Washington Post reports that she cosponsored the bill to approve SSM in Maryland, then ended up behind closed doors and changed her support to civil unions. Sounds to me like she’s a weak first term politician who tried to do the right thing but either couldn’t stand up for herself or wasn’t so gung ho about it.
·
@Michael: Hey look, it’s Michael! A happy Monday to you. True to what you said about the vast majority of anti-gay activism coming from the religious right—keyword religious—than from the left, no denying that. My point was the less-than-subtle omission of the Democratic Party affiliation by the author, who in the past has been quite the cheerleader against the right. But, what can ya say. If I claimed Mr. Villareal was yet another example of how the liberal media twists things to influence their readers, I’d be called a this and a that and, well, you know the drill.
·
She is from Prince George’s County which is basically run by the African-American churches. According to the Washington Post, she was basically told if she voted for Marriage Equality the churches would not support her for a second term.
·
Happy Monday to you as well Pit nice to hear from you again. :)
Yes sadly I do know that drill all too well man.
People like this remind me of people like Sherrie Shepherd on the View she has an extravagant wedding vehemently against gay marriage and gay rights.Yet she has no problem at all when a gay man does her hair or her dress etc…. There is just so much hypocrisy involved with these people sadly.
·
@mdthom:
It takes a coward to back down just because someone claims something like that.If she had a backbone and any integrity whatsoever she would have simply told those churches to mind their own damn business and that she didnt care if they did not support her. Those were HER beliefs not theirs if this is true that is.
Ugh religion tries way too much in this country to infringe on other peoples rights .It gets shoved down enough of our throats as it is.
·
or when someone claims to care about LGBT Equality and then votes for John McCain….
who is:
against LGBT people marrying
against LGBT people adopting children
against LGBT people serving openly in the military
supports constitutional amendments banning LGBT couples from marrying
it’s just such hypocrisy. to claim to care about LGBT Equality, and then vote for a man who works against it.
:)
·
@ Michael
Thanks for pointing out that very interesting and relevant fact; just goes to show that not all Democrats are queer friends, just like not all Republicans are gaybashers.
@ LK
TLDR
·
I love weddings. I just hate when they turn into frivolous pageants. Even more annoying when someone getting married for a second or third time gets all “princess-y” in their wedding planning.
·
there are fewer anti-LGBT Democrats than there are Pro-LGBT Republicans.
never forget that fact.
·
If I may ask man why did you vote for McCain? Im not angry or anything just curious .McCain is indeed very anti gay as Palin also was.I can admit here also that I was wrong about Obama because even if some of us do not necessarily trust him without his leadership we never would have progressed nor gotten this far on gay rights or gay marriage.
If Palin and McCain would have won in 2008… well lets just say that that is a very scary scenario especially for gay americans.
·
@Clamydia Jones: Bro, your racist jokes aren’t funny. Please get the fuck out of our Queerty.
·
People are allowed to have voted for McCain. They just can’t expect to be taken seriously when they complain about “how little Obama has done for the LGBT Community” when the man they voted for would have not only done less but actually worked against the LGBT Community.
To claim that one “doesn’t care enough about LGBT Equality to make it a voting issue” and yet come on this site (every day) today to complain about how the most pro-LGBT President in history “isn’t doing enough” makes no intellectual sense whatsoever – more so when the man they voted for would have worked against us.
If you care enough to complain about Obama not doing enough then your justifications for voting for McCain are negated. it’s clear, like with the wimps of GOProud, that some sad homosexuals are only “comfortable” talking about LGBT Equality if they’re allowed to direct it at “liberals”
pure cowardice.
·
How funny that the major issue here is that a ciminal and a thief is anti gay and yet Politically Incorrect Thug is much more interested in trying to distract from the issue of this hypocritical criminal bigot just to try to whine about his political party.
·
Yes, but there are usually a sufficient number of anti-LGBT Democrats to allow the anti-LGBT Republicans to get their way.
Unless and until Democrats start voting as a bloc, the pro-LGBT Democrat majority is impotent and useless.
·
@Michael: In all probability, you’re right. DADT likely wouldn’t have been repealed under McCain unless there had been some unignorable political surge, and gay marriage would likely have no hope under his administration, at least in his first term when he would still be facing re-election. I admit that. I also admit that his choice of Palin as running mate was laughably ill-advised. But here’s my position: these days, the state of the country is more pressing than the state of my relationship with another man. I don’t say that out of any pride or false patriotism, it’s simply just the way I see things, politically. I also never trusted Obama. Even if the man had been a Libertarian (which I am), I wouldn’t have voted for him—he’s all smoke and mirrors, no substance. No record to speak of. Makes a great speaker, no doubt—so he was absolutely fine as a senator, of which high intellect is obviously not required. POTUS? Well, we had the mental midget W. in there for 8 years, and look where his stupidity got us. I fear Obama’s lack of experience is equally as dangerous. In McCain, at least, I had an iota of trust, and still do, except for that Palin fuck-up. And, I still don’t trust Obama. I think he’s as slick and disingenuous as any politician.
·
I respect your opinion.I just with all due respect trust Obama more even if I do not necessarily like the man I can not doubt for one second that he has done more for the LGBT community then any other president ever has.
Not to mention McCain would have ignored all of this and frowned on it especially gay marriage. He made himself abundantly clear on that subject years ago .But as I said I respect your opinion just because I do not necessarily agree with it does not mean I would attack or bash you for it.
·
@Crusty, but even that is intellectually dishonest.
yes, we’ve seen it. a vote for Equality is lost and there have been 1-4 Dems that didn’t vote for Equality. That is, however, ignoring the reality of the Voting Block of Bigotry that is the GOP.
people say “we lost because ____ Democrat didn’t vote”, rather than “Wow, not a single Republican voted for Equality”
And once again, P.I.T. proves the rest of us right – if he cares so much about the, uh, “state of the country” (how’s that for an amorphous meaningless bullshit term, eh?) then why doesn’t he talk about it?
No. P.I.T. is here every day to complain about how the liberals aren’t doing enough for LGBT people, even though the people he voted for would have done far less.
One more Gay Republican who proves that they vote GOP because they’re still sucking up to their bigoted parents. Grow. A. Pair.
·
@Cam: A) I’m not a Republican, and B) I was only pointing out Mr. V’s double-standard. No, I fully embrace the issue: the woman’s a piece of shit who should go to jail for stealing from the public coffers, regardless of her political posiions. End of story.
·
You’re not a Republican but you voted for John McCain who ran on an anti-Equality platform, elected a complete idiot as his running-mate, and has spent the last three years continuing to promote anti-gay bigotry all while Obama has overseen a rather strong amount of Pro-LGBT work, and yet you still say you “trust” McCain and not Obama.
you’re a terrific example of how strong homophobia is in America, and what it reduces some people to.
http://littlekiwilovesbauhaus.blogspot.com/2010/08/441am-stoned-thoughts-on-gay.html
·
@Michael: Yes, he has done more, but I think it’s more consequently to his being in office than a direct result of it. I think he’s been dragged kicking and screaming by the Democrats into passing LGBT legislation—left to his own, we’d get an occasional shout-out so we’d vote for him, but do you really think he would have repealed DADT on his own, without the Dems? I’m very wary of that possibility.
·
In all honestly Im on the fence about that Ive said this before that I was not sure if I trusted his intentions or not. But regardless of that he has made a lot of leeway for the gay community and I will always be grateful to him for that.I appreciate all he has done and no matter what the reasonings were behind it I am just glad that he did it.
Its not important ultimately whether we like Obama or not the fact is he HAS made a difference and an impact on the gay community that no other president ever has made.
·
You voted for a man that chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, Politically Incorrect Thug.
thus, you’re not exactly the most intellectually discerning fella on the block.
DADT is repealed, and you hypthetically think Obama wouldn’t have done it “on his own”
ok. and the man you voted for still insists it should be reinstated. and he chose Palin as his running-mate.
so…yeah. it’s clear why you give the excuses you give. you have my pity.
·
Might I add it is such a pleasure to talk to a kind soul here for a change.
Despite whether we agree with one another we still maintain civility and respect with one another I appreciate and respect that so much.
·
@Little Kiwi : McCain didn’t exactly choose Sarah Palin, let’s be honest; she was foisted on him by their Party.
I share your dislike for both those people, but don’t rewrite history.
Depending on which ‘insider’ stories you read, he wasn’t aware of who she even was until shortly before she got put on the ticket, and/or didn’t want her as running mate.
A historical comparison might be had in JFK and LBJ as his VP. That was a ‘marriage of convenience’ too!
·
One may certainly find fault with a conservative’s antigay agenda, but one cannot fault the Republican PARTY for reliably voting as a party BLOC to advance the agenda of their party base.
That’s what political parties do, and that is what parties are for.
If Democrats, AS A PARTY, cannot, or will not advance the legislative agenda of their own party base due to any number of defectors voting with the opposition, they are USELESS AS A PARTY.
You may remain forever incapable of understanding this fundamental political reality, but that doesn’t make me a liar.
So fuck you for calling me intellectually dishonest.
·
@Clamydia Jones: Obviously, the STD has gone from your crotch directly to your “brain”. Please stop spreading your lies, bigotry and legs, your poisoning America.
·
Lawd has merci, I just tryin to help outta sista, den I wuz called racisisisist an all dat. wats a poor gurl to do.
·
LMFAO your comments make me laugh but just the way I read them.Im 99% sure you are a troll but even so the comments do come off as racist and it seems like you are mocking african americans .That’s just my view on things though your comments are entertaining but if they are at someone elses expense race nationality sexual orientation etc… then they are quite frankly not worth attempting in that area.
@PIT: :)
·
@Politically Incorrect Thug: You’re right. I’d say there are more homophobic (or those who won’t vote gay-friendly) in the Republican party than in the Democrats, but there are enough homophobic Dems, too, and Queerty shouldn’t omit that if it doesn’t omit it when other parties are the culprits.
·
@Clamydia Jones: Clamydia. You are very aware that internet access is a violation of the conditions of your parole. I will be speaking with the judge in the morning about this.
·
@Clamydia Jones: Clamydia. You are very aware that internet access is a violation of the conditions of your parole. I will be speaking with the judge about this in the morning.
·
@Clamydia Jones
You made me giggle.
Just a little bit.
·
@CBRad:
Agreed. If Queerty wants to be a morally responsible site then they should indeed be wise enough to including the anti gay dems as well as the anti gay republicans.Otherwise it is only one sided and biased .People in this community some anyways may not believe there are any anti gay dems out there but they would be surprised by just how many there truly are.
·
@crusty, i wasn’t aware of the American Rule that members of parties must vote as a block. I was always under the impression that, like in Canada, there was a freedom to do otherwise, due to the reality that different people from different districts made different promises to their constituents due to demographic…well…differences.
yes. it’s irritating to see the occasional Dems not support Equality measures. Just as it’s irritating to see fewer-than-a-handful of Repubs support them.
but, apparenly, there’s a rule i was not aware of wherein the party must vote as a bloc. well, now i know.
·
LOL. I’m sure you imagine you’ve won the argument by feigning ignorance of the purpose of political parties in a partisan political system. I hope that special thrill carries you through your day.
And because it bears repeating: fuck you for calling me “intellectually dishonest.” Seriously. That ad hominem was uncalled for, it was inappropriate, and it was gratuitous.
Apologize and learn to argue like an adult instead of a dick, and we can move forward.
·
it’s not winning an argument. is it actually a set-in-stone rule that the party must vote as a bloc?
if so, why bother having votes at all? why not just assume that whomever has the majority will win the “vote”?
i’m actually asking you this.
·
Having failed at the ad hominem attack, you’ve now tossed a fresh logical fallacy salad of straw man, false attribution, cherry-picking and moving-the-goalposts. Your need to reframe my argument to make me seem wrong betrays a certain desperation on your part.
Just scroll up and re-read the thread. You will not find that I ever argued that there was a “set-in-stone rule that the party must vote as a bloc.”
What I did was explain the purpose of political parties, and how Republicans are enormously successful at advancing their platform and legislative agenda through the application and enforcement of party discipline, with the corollary that the Democrat’s failure in this respect — with regard to gay equality — renders them largely useless as a party. This is a matter of fact and record, not merely my personal opinion.
It is in no way “intellectually dishonest” to point this out, so — once again — fuck you for attempting to portray me as a liar, you jackass. I offered you one opportunity to man-up and apologize if you want to move forward. If you don’t want to take this final opportunity, you’re a fucking zero and beneath contempt, and I have no interest in engaging you ever again.
·
You’re pathetic you harass mock belittle and put down EVERYONES opinions here. Then I get attacked mocked and bashed for disagreeing with you and standing up to you? Hypocrites. Then you mock me on another thread and your kiss asses continue to suck up to you every waking moment of their lives.Pathetic.You need to take a sabbatical away from this site for a while until you are capable of treating people the right way.You really are a massive failure in that area no question about that.
·
yes. i see how the GOP votes as a non-stop bloc and how the Dems don’t.
i don’t understand why a pro-Equality Republican wouldn’t throw a vote toward Equality measures. I agree that it’s useless that the Dems don’t vote as a Bloc when the GOP do.
sorry, but i don’t really buy the “i was just following party lines” thing. I know it’s done, it’s OBVIOUS that it’s done, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be done.
i’m not sure what you’re getting all worked up about. what i said was simple – as irritating as it is to see a Dem vote against Equality, it’s even more galling to see even fewer Republicans vote FOR it. i’m not sure how that can be contested.
·
how can a party change from the inside, for example, if seat-holders within the party refuse to break from traditional party lines on certain issues?
i’m sure there are more pro-LGBT Republicans than we know, they’re simply not proving it with their votes. how, then, will the party change if nobody takes it upon themselves to voice a need for change? we’ve seen it before – a member within a party breaking from the party line to vote their conscience.
i agree with you and understand WHY more don’t do it – i’m simply saying it’s a frustration that more don’t.
@Michael, go call your boyfriend that you’ve never met.
·
You are such a pathetic little bully.Sad thing is you have more brains then brawn and you are not even smart enough to compute how to treat people with respect.
You’re even such a hypocrite and coward that you NEVER apologize for anything you say or do.Your comments about my father not being proud of me just proves that your parents failed YOU in more ways then one.My dad is dead you have parents who are alive and well the fact that you even attempted a low blow like that just shows your lack of character period.
Keep tooting your horn though and he is indeed my boyfriend unlike you manwhore I dont sleep around I saved myself for someone who was very special to me and yes we are gonna meet. You really do make the gay community look bad in more ways then one but your astounding arrogance and lack of conscience always gets in the way of what you truly are.So sad too bad.
·
best of luck in life with your boyfriend whom you’ve never met who likes women more than men. truly. best of luck with that. try to stick to the topic.
what’s interesting is someone like Ileana Ros-Lehtinsomething – republican, and pro-LGBT Equality.
what do we want more? a party that pressures people to vote along a party line that they may disagree with or the freedom for discourse within a party?
i don’t like the lack of orbs the Democrats have exhibited AT ALL> they have indeed been useless. but i can’t help but think more Republicans would be in favor of Equality if they felt they could promote Equality and still maintain standing as Republicans.
·
Thankfully as I said before you do not solely represent this community.People like my friends however do.Good riddance to your kind I say. Hilarious how one day all you will be left with is your ego and arrogance and superiority complex. Its a fact of life people like you ALWAYS eventually run people off with the way you treat people and your attitudes as well.
You’ll see eventually ;)Ty also Im glad Im not a manwhore like your kind is thanks for noticing.
·
throwing insults at me is not going to change the fact that your “boyfriend” is never going to actually meet you. like i said, best of luck.
now find someone else to obsess over.
i never claimed to represent the community. i see now why you get so worked up about online things – you have an “online boyfriend” whom you’ve never met. this isn’t just a little pre-work hobby for you, or a time-killer – it’s indeed your LIFE.
best of luck.
·
You are such a pitiful loser. You ALWAYS act as if you know everyone you even stupidly attempt to psychoanalyze people you are a moron and you are not even a gentleman.Just a pompous blowhard who constantly treats people as if they are beneath you then anytime you think you have found a weakness you try to exploit it as you have continuously tried with me and ALWAYS failed.Yes he is my boyfriend loser I dont sleep around like your kind does never have never will Im a one man person and you are not a psychiatrist nor a psychologist so get over yourself for the last and final time.
You tell people to kill themselves you claim peoples parents are not proud of them as you disgustingly did about my father who DIED 2 months ago.You are revolting in so many ways and no matter what you may think you know it does not give you the right to treat people the way you continuously do.You seriously do not have ounce of humility whatsoever and you are a joke of a human being as well. You think you are hurting my feelings and constantly LIE about me being obsessed with your loser ass.Get a grip insane one I have never been obsessed with a moron like you nor would I ever be that desperate. You are constantly bullying people here also hypocrite so do not EVER claim you are against bullying when you yourself do the exact same damn thing period.I pity you and always will you are the one beneath ME and any other compassionate decent human being who TRIES to show people respect.Blame YOUR parents for not succeeding in raising you the right way in that area. You act like we should kiss your ass bow to you and agree with you otherwise you attack mock ridicule belittle and make fun of.YOU are a LITTLE BOY you have the mentality and maturity of one no matter how many big words you use and how much better you perceive yourself to be then the rest of us here.I expect the same thing this time thanks to your idiotic ass to be attacked mocked and lashed out at by your kiss ass friends for my opinions about YOU.
·
You are an idiot you even think you are PSYCHIC.Bitch please I am gonna meet him and you do not know a damn thing about him. You’re even so stupid as to make it seem as if most bisexuals are actually gay when that could not be further from the truth. You always think what you say is right you are not even man enough nor have the balls to ever admit when you are wrong.Thats probably because you NEVER think you are wrong to begin with.Goddamn that ego of yours gets bigger and bigger and bigger everyday.
·
at least i’ve met my boyfriend :D
” Im a one man person”
you’re a virgin. technically speaking, you’re a “no-man person”
·
Ty for that incredibly mature intelligent comment mr 5 year old.Oops my bad I confused your mentality and I.Q. for a 5 year old again.Gee how could I have ever have made that MISTAKE? :)
·
Oh gee your maturity just keeps shining through.Hilarious how you mock my virginity when I am actually proud of it.Like I said Im not a manwhore like YOU are so thank you for noticing. Please continue though you prove so little about yourself in so many ways everyday here so please do not let me stop you from continuing as you always do. :)
·
thanks for showing us all why you’ve only ever had “long distance online relationships”
buh-bye.
·
Thanks for showing that one day you will be left all alone with your ego and arrogance. That ones a given though buh bye moron. :)
·
I already said I had social anxiety disorder also dipshit.Gee you are a great representation of this community mocking someone who has sad mocking someones dead father mocking someone being a virgin…. whats next sweetie want to mock one of my relatives who has parkinsons disease? :) Gutter trash.
·
