High school prom is really about two looks — a tux or a gown. There’s not a lot of wiggle room there. And if you’re a boy, good luck getting away with wearing a gown.
After high school, and the institutionalized self consciousness that comes with being a teenager, the world can become a much more fluid place if you know where to look.

When girls, boys and everyone in between get to be and wear whatever the hell they want, everything shines a little brighter.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
MTV asked a gorgeous bunch of young adults with diverse gender backgrounds to reimagine their prom with a look they would have loved to serve.
Here are the results:
Where do we buy our tickets?

I’m all for youthful frivolity but such antics may well cost you future work as a stew or papertowel mascot.
Giancarlo85
Awesome. People need to get over their own insecurities. Being androgynous harms no one.
ClubbedFoot
For me it no work. it does not get but a no. Others go otherwisings. I just do not re-act with this in any fancy. No mean. Just mean it no work for a me.

I always thought of Prom as a red carpet type event where you want to present your “Exceptional-Self” in an elegant, sophisticated, fashionable type way. This seems more costume(y). After seeing some of the red carpet looks of the stars, this might not be too far fetched. I guess elegant to one, is totally redefined in someone else’s mind.
Jacob23
This is sort of sad. What do they think they are accomplishing? Every single culture on every continent has dress styles which distinguish between men and women. The specific styles vary greatly over time and from culture to culture, but there’s sex differentiation throughout. It isn’t a grand conspiracy against “queers,” it’s just human nature.
So what is the point of the nonsense above? To force people to be attracted to their weirdness? It won’t happen. To proclaim themselves “above” the concept of gender? That’s a joke. They are the ones most obsessed by it. They spend most of their waking day yapping about it. Why don’t they STFU and dress like normal human beings and then maybe fewer people will laugh at them?
Clark35
Exactly Jacob it’s silly and pointless.
Masc Pride
Yeah, just know that if you’re going to go out looking like this, people are probably gonna talk…and/or maybe even laugh a bit…and/or wonder if you’re all there mentally. I’m sorry but it’s like some of these folks purposely act and look as ridiculous as possible so that they can argue with anyone that has a less than encouraging reaction to such an outrageous presentation. Craaaaazy! They all look nuts (with the exception of the woman in the suit whom I can really only tell is a woman because of the context of the story).

@Masc Pride: You are trying too hard and projecting you stupid insecurities again. You just don’t get it. Not everyone will be like your fake self. You hate anyone who doesn’t conform. You are a fake masculine conformist… Just like that fool jacob23.
Jacob is a self absorbed fool who thinks he can tell people how to act.
Fuxk you and fuck your gender norms.
Saint Law
@Jacob23: Bet you get LOTS of dates.
Giancarlo85
@Jacob23: So you get to define what is normal?
Homophobic straight guy to brainless idiot Jacob: “Why don’t you be like a normal human being and go with girls? Nature didn’t make it so you an stick your dick up a guy’s asshole”.
You have no right to talk.
Saint Law
It’s always the friendless loners that get all uppity at this sort of thing. They look at these free spirits and think:
“Hang on. I may be a bit homely but I’m reliable. I dress modestly and sensibly. I have multiple profiles on every dating sight going and yet STILL find myself alone in front of the tv of a Saturday night watching boxed sets of ‘Ugly Betty’ while sat on a scented candle. How is it they get to have all the fun?”
Saint Law
@Masc Pride: Christ. Like they’d care if a dullard like you called them ‘crazy’.
aliengod
They look ridiculous. It’s perfectly normal to distinguish between male and female. These “gender nonconformists” are mostly immature twits looking for attention. It’s a silly concept.
*Yes, Giancarlo85… I know you’ll have a comment about how androgynous you are. Good for you. Can everyone please acknowledge Giancarlo85 so he/she can feel better.
Giancarlo85
@aliengod: Alienloser is back at it… with his fake masculinity and projections of his insecurities. You are such an insecure tool. We get it now. I am not a girl by the way. Learn the difference you idiot. Just because I don’t live to your ideas of gender norms doesn’t mean I want a sex change.
You are the real immature twit who wants attention. Your existence is a silly idea.
aliengod
@Giancarlo85: As predicted! I must give you kudos for consistency, however ridiculous your points may be. By the way, I never indicated you were a girl. I said androgynous. My apologies for using terminology beyond your vocabulary. Perhaps you could use Google before responding next time.
Giancarlo85
@aliengod: You are on here crying like a bitch about people not meeting your norms of gender. You called me a girl because I offend you. You are a thin skinned weakling.
You clearly did refer to me as “he/she”. Seriously fuck off you uneducated tool. Your vocabulary is shit.
Masc Pride
@Giancarlo85: I find the term “gender non-conforming” so passive-aggressive yet laughable at the same time. Like 6’2 guys with beards that don’t walk around in gowns and tiaras are simply “conformists”. There’s reverse psychology, and then there’s just plain silly. BTW, why so angry? Since I’m such a fake conformist, why does my mere opinion seem to ruffle your feathers?
@Saint Law: You obviously did, as you do and you will every time.
Giancarlo85
@Masc Pride: You are one insecure pathetic fake little boy. I find the term “masc pride” so utterly pathetic and descriptive of a loser with no life. You post your stupid shit in every thread having to do with androgynous and gender nonconforming people. Grow up! Not everyone lives to your false standard.
Realitycheck
So much to do about nothing, really, Queerty simply took some photo shots
and voila another article………..
I honestly don’t remember ever seen guys walking around dressed like that
in NYC, LOL
Unless they are hosting a drag show, or going to a costume party.

no…..but Rupaul is enjoyable
Blazipitous
Yuckitty yuck. I think I’m going to be sick!
Masc Pride
@Giancarlo85: You know, enough back and forth with you makes me totally understand what would possess a guy to take a wooden chair to the back of some obnoxious queen’s head. 😉
Giancarlo85
@Masc Pride: And he’s back beating his chest… “masc pride”… I found your pic…

@Masc Pride: And it’s awesome you’re now condoning violence. Lovely… you really are a twisted, demented person.
Masc Pride
@Giancarlo85: Nice try but that pic is obviously from the 80’s. I was born in ’83. FAIL!

Giancarlo85
@Masc Pride: Nice try little boy. Get some originality. And who said someone can be stuck in a time warp? You obviously dress like your daddy.
Jacob23
It occurs to me that this sad, strange display is also dishonest. It claims to be a “de-gendered” prom, but 3 of the 4 weirdos actually accept and perpetuate the idea of gendered clothing. Two males dress in consistently female garb and the 1 woman dresses as a male. Cross-dressing inherently recognizes that there is a way that men and women are supposed to dress. The weirdo with green lips is the only one who is genuinely screwing with gendered clothing. Congrats to him. Maybe he will get to be an extra in the new Star Wars movie.
Giancarlo85
@Jacob23: You are a strange and sad person who is self absorbed and you think you have everything figured out. You are a sad little guy with no real life. You have to make yourself feel more important.
What difference does how one dress make to you?
I have crossdressed before (well, just for halloween). Does it really bother you that much?
Masc Pride
@Giancarlo85: Get some originality? Yeah, that means a lot coming from someone still trying to crack daddy jokes in 2015. Talk about being stuck in a time warp!
@Jacob23: Exactly. Funny how you can always tell which gender these gender “non-conformists” are actually conforming to. The term is just a total joke and clearly a flimsy attempt at ad hominem.
Jacob23
@Giancarlo85: Whether I am strange, conventional, sad, happy, little or big has no bearing on the merits of the argument. Focus.
As to your question on crossdressing, you might be surprised to learn that it doesn’t bother me at all. I know plenty of crossdressers. I ‘ve seen drag performers. It’s not a problem and not a big deal. I find 2 things objectionable. First, the way that some activists are trying to force their view of gender onto the 99% of people who hold to the quaint notion that there 2 genders and no more. And second, the way that a variety of concepts – crossdressing, queer, nonbinary, “gender queer” and about 100 others – have all been foisted onto gay people and onto gay identity. When you start linking being gay and lesbian with being not-male and not-female, then you are not just doing something for yourself, you are trying to define me and other gay people against our will.
