Argentina’s 1st Lesbian Marriage Back On

And around and around the circle we go: Buenos Aires Judge Elena Liberatori yesterday upheld the marriage between 30-year partners Norma Castillo and Ramona Arévalo, previously declared invalid. [GNW]

Well its hard to complain about the politics of same-sex marriage in Argentina when my new home state, North Carolina, will not recognize my Massachusetts marriage to my husband of 24 years (that is, together for 24 years, married for 3 years).

I wish all those in Argentina all the best. The love relationship between the two women involved in this particular case is so life-and-love affirming. My BF/hubby and I have had our own trials, me HIV+ our entire relationship and he HIV-, losing so many friends to AIDS, being the victims of homophobic business partner who went after us with guns (literally) resulting in bankruptcy, ups-and-downs with family; but forced exile or death, military backed human rights abuse, and they are together and in love. This is a beautiful story, or certainly will be when all the legal monkey business is over.

      Viva Argentina.

This is lovely news. Congratulations, Norma and Ramona. Here’s hoping the two of you have many happy years ahead.
