Ari Gold’s ‘Make My Body Rock’ Is a Bloody Bisexual Mess

Ari Gold, who apparently gave himself the title “Sir,” has always relied heavily on auto-tune to transform his voice into something that gives gay bars something to play during happy hour, is out with his new video for “Make My Body Rock.” There are scenes of cocaine, pills, and alcohol, to make sure you know this is a video about chemistry, and then it turns into a bisexual vampire threeway and child sacrifice. Um.

Wow, that’s just awful, both the song and video.

This is a mess and a step backwards for Ari. I was on-the-fence fan of his but the video made a mediocre song just unbearable.

Video is nasty. Song is lame. Really HATE auto-tune. “You make me wanna stay over night”…embarassing.

I have liked everything in the past Ari has done but when I saw this, I was pretty disappointed. Sometimes a video accompanying a release can put me over the edge in liking a song. This was just weird. His music videos in the past have been awesome (Wave of You, WHere the Music Takes You) I was more disappointed that Ari’s creature was bi-sexual, him being openly gay and all, )I thought he was trying to pander to everyone) than I was at the ending. You *do* know that was just an actor, right?

On watching it again I’m even more put off by the weird vampire-vogue-ing. If a vampire were chasing me, stopped to vougue, I’d probably stop running and have a good chuckle.

I think we may have a contender for the absolutely worst music video ever. A fail on every count – music, concept, videography. I had been anticipating his next album. What a letdown!

This is just lazy journalism that I expected more from queerty. If you follow Ari you would know that he was crowned “Sir” by the Imperial Court Of NY who has raised a ton of money for HIV and human rights related causes. And most of the comments clearly miss the pointy of the video–he’s not trying to pander to anyone–no artist has been more outspoken about being openly gay than Ari Gold, but in this video he is putting a spotlight on heterosexist culture and turning it on its head. Awesome song and awesome video. So cool to see a gay artist go in such an interesting direction. I can’t wait for the rest of the album!!

If you ever heard Ari sing live he sounds amazing!! He was actually one of the first artists to use auto-tune as a vocal effect before Kanye and everybody else did it. Why do the gays go crazy for everything Gaga does and when a gay artist like Ari makes an awesome video to an awesome song they are so bitchy?? Bow down to Sir Gold!!

Its art people! It’s obviously not trying to spread a message about killing children! The guy is a wall street executive–its a commentary…wow, people can be so stupid sometimes. I’m now an even bigger fan of Ari Gold than I was before! I guess he’s too smart for people that think Lady Gaga is the only one making intelligent pop art.

I can see all the NOM people and other nuts using this to say “look gays prey on children.”

Steven : If this video was done by a heterosexual artist and involved killing gays I don’t you’d be screaming, “Its art people!”

CityTime: Autotune is used on singers like Mary J. Blige, Cher, and the entire cast of Glee so your wrong–its an industry standard at this point used to varying degrees by most current pop acts. And as far as a video of heterosexuals killing homosexuals, sure that may be art too…art history has given us many art that has come from Nazis and all kinds of bigots. But we have to look at the context and see that Ari Gold has been an activist and champion of gay rights since he first came on the scene when no other pop acts wanted to speak up about this. I recommend you looking a little deeper into what this video may be trying to say and maybe do your research on what kind of artist is making this video.

Steven : Yeah, and all those singers you mention can’t even sing. Ever see that Ellen DeGeneris clip where she’s goofing on autotune by “…singing like Cher” to the tune of that Life After Love song (or whatever it’s called)? It’s a gimmick. Sometimes it can sound a little cool, but…////////////Yes, I know all about Ari Gold (and certainly art history). He might have done some good activist work, but this video is not art in any way and it’s offensively in bad taste. That’s just my opinion.

I’m a little confused about some folk’s take on this video. I liked it. Thought it was kind of funny and a bit of a stab at heterosexuals and hetero parenthood. I don’t know, I’m not a huge pop fan anyway, but sure seems to me like you guys missed a lot in this video. And regarding the lyrics, Madonna: “I had a mother, it was nice.” Lady Gaga: Meat Dress? Are you kidding? And if some queen came at me like a dancing nazi in a three stooges wig (Alejandro), I would most definitely laugh also. BTW, shouldn’t somebody spell check at least the header of the stuff on this site?

I’ve never heard of Sir Ari Gold before. But a friend asked me to watch this video so we could talk about it. I read the review and expected a video about drugs and partying. This is want I heard and saw. Lyrics: “Don’t need no cocaine…no little blue pill.” Video: He blows cocaine away from himself into the air and then pushes blue pills away from himself. Whether you like the song or not, this review was really misleading. Definitely suspect the person who wrote it has an agenda or is just too lazy to actually listen and watch the stuff he/she is reviewing. The comment about NOM cracked me up. Yes, if only this video had not been made, then NOM would be in support of gay marriage. Hilarious! There is some serious gay Uncle Toming going on around here. The only video NOM wants to see of gay people is one where they are being castrated and put in jail.

I agree Steven–do we really want all music videos to look like Pepsi commericals? Its refreshing to see a video that makes you think. If videos were made to appease NOM with only “positive representation” we’d have pretty one dimentional art.

Male bisexuality is not about threeways. For Pete’s sake, stop getting your information from sleazy porn movies. Porn has nothing to do with reality.

I’m glad the editors of Queerty fixed their grammar in the title of this post. Maybe now they can criticize an artist who has tirelessly been making art for the gay community with proper English.
