SOUNDBITES — “There’s good news and bad news here. The good news is that even in one of the most liberal States in the Union, Maine, the people have once again rejected the ridiculous and oxymoronic notion of ‘same sex marriage.’ The momentum has again shifted – hopefully for good this time – in favor of protecting legitimate marriage. A counterfeit is a counterfeit. An orange is an orange no matter how much you want it to be a turnip. This isn’t about ‘marriage.’ It’s about hurting and broken people desperately seeking affirmation of an objectively deviant lifestyle. One that, even in their heart of hearts, they know to be a dead end. As for the militant ‘No on 1’ homosexual activists? I’m reminded of spoiled children dressing up and playing house, refusing to come in when mom calls for dinner. Here’s the bad news. The margin of victory could have been greater. Many behind the ‘Yes on 1’ campaign, rather than simply telling the truth, chose the Neville Chamberlain approach. They merely circled the wagons around the word ‘marriage,’ even suggesting that ‘domestic partnerships’ (‘gay marriages’ by another name) are acceptable. This makes no sense. If that’s a viable compromise, then why not simply allow ‘gay’ duos the word ‘marriage’? It’s an incongruity that demands an explanation. This is an historic battle for the minds and souls of our children – for our very culture. The mealy-mouthed approach must end. This is not just about ‘marriage.’ It has everything to do with forced affirmation of homosexuality – under penalty of law.” —Liberty Counsel and Liberty Alliance Action director Matt Barber, on Maine’s outcome (via)

What hate, i am sure bigots like him have a place in hell.

Not to sound like Pollyanna here, BUT…..a few years ago less than 30% of the people polled would have supported gay unions if they uncluded the world “Marriage”. Now you’ve got a state with GOP senators, that just had 47% of the people vote for gay marraige, and in the cities that vote was over 60%. The trend looks good. Liberty Counsel and Liberty Alliance Action director Matt Barber can crow all he wants, but all he is doing is setting himself up to be similar to the Ku Klux Klan before the civil rights laws passed. The vote would have been nice, but it wasn’t a state by state vote that brought minorities their rights, and remember, in the year 2000 nearly 40% of the electorate in Alabama wanted to keep an anti-interacial marriage law on the books even though it was rendered meaningless by federal law. So we just need to keep putting pressure on our elected reps. This is just a minor stop.

I’d like to get low life political whore in a room for about 10 minutes. This no good deviant would have him wishing for a good fucking pretty quick. I wonder if he’s ever had a faggot kick his ass…
I am not even all that damn militant. If we were smart we would have billboards made up with his hateful and hurtful words put on it for the whole world to see.
I had to retype this comment about 6 times to try to keep the violence down to a reasonable level. I AM WHITE HOT PISSED OFF

Its funny that Matt Barber can spew such hatred towards the Gays. Gay marriage is the greatest source of revenue for him and his despicable sub-human vile scumbags. Without them scaring the bejezus out of blue haired old ladies who whip out their check books to combat the “Gay agenda” their hateful organizations would wither away and die. Maggie (the cunt) Gallagher makes over a quarter of a million dollars per year all funded thru anti Gay dollars.
I wish we had a Gay organization with the dollars and resources to zero in on scum like Barber every time one of them surfaces and begins to spew the vile anti-Gay poo from their mouths, to do a thorough investigation into their backgrounds find and expose everyone of their skeletons. For it seems every time one of these lunatics begins to chatter and slam the Gay community one finds their moral compass is somehow not pointed in the “right” direction…………

CAM is right. It really is only a matter of time before public opinion or laws are changed in support of SSM. The govt of Maine took a bold step when they created the law and I applaud them for that. The battle was lost but the war is not over.

@vernonvanderbilt: Yeah, right there with you on that.
You know what the good news really is? Guys like this draw a lot of their support from, well, old people. Who are going to die. And when you die, you can’t vote any more.
Cam and Michael vdB are spot on. Unfortunate as it is, this sort of opinion change takes time, but we *are* making progress. It took a hundred years from the end of the Civil War to the passage of the Civil Rights Act. It’s reasonable (though unpalatable) to put our struggle on the same time scale.

Wow, what an asshole! (Hm, that’s the first time I’ve said that and not meant it as a compliment.)

Join my Boycott Marriage group – it’s based in Maryland…but it would be nice to see other states join in and link up to actually begin some TRUE grassroots organizing. HRC and DNC will NOT fight for us…it’s actually a relief to know this…it means that we have to rely on ourselves to get this done.
It’s up to us now folks…

All the way from the civil war until the 1960’s, the KKK cast themselves as victims. They were the good, honest, Christian people who were being victimized by the evil blacks. Or, so they claimed. They wore white hoods to protect their identity while they burned crosses, and they committed acts of violence against black people.
Now, good, honest, Christian people from those same families claim they are being victimized by the evil homosexuals. The only thing that is missing is the white hoods.

I really, really don’t understand how people can be so terrible. I really don’t. It’s love; I don’t know why they can’t see it.
