SOUNDBITES — “As parents of a beautiful, happy and healthy transgender child attending school in Alameda, our hearts are broken by the thousands of gender-nonconforming children who face violence, verbal and sexual harassment, increased dropout rates and institutional bias — and who take their own lives at three times the rate of their peers — largely because they have been diagnosed as mentally ill and treated accordingly.” —Parents Maria José Muñoz and Rafael Pineda, whose child attends school in the Alameda Unified School District, which just dropped a LGBT-specific anti-bullying program for a more broadly inclusive curriculum (via)
I read their full statement and applaud their enlightenment. More people like them are needed in leadership positions.
Hmm, how old is this kid to already be considered transgender?
For those who don’t live here– to get more of the story of how progressive these folks are (and brave), understand that Alameda is fairly conservative. It’s got some nice spots, but the groove there is kind of red-neck.
What a pack of lies. No one is buying it, the goal was to impose an agenda on people who did not want it. Using the hyperbole this person(2) did is nauseating, uncalled for, and reasonable people who read it do not respond well to it.
Somehow the inference of all of these children in grade school being transgendered is too much for anyone to buy.
This agenda and program was overwhelmingly centered on education of homosexuality, Trans Gender was a side bar, this was a blatant attempt at misdirection.
