Asylum Fight.
Nope, this story ain’t about Iranian gay Mehdi Fazemi. The UK apparently wants to deport yet another teen, a 19-year old Syrian named Jojo Jako Yakob. Yakob claims he fled his homeland after facing anti-gay death threats, but British officials aren’t convinced. He plans to appeal, of course. [Pink News]
The facts about Jojo’s case is that his asylum claim was mistakenly withdrawn after he was jailed for a year for having a fake passport.
On the Mehdi case, it contravnes EU legislation to send him back, and the Home Secretary reviewed his case and allowed him to stay.
The same needs to be done with Jojo, it is a clerical oversight that he may be sent to his death, and there is a campaign underway to esnure he wont be sent home. A motion his already been submitted to the Scottish Parliament.
