Feel like you were destined for the stage, but just can’t muster the courage to audition? Listen up, because this could be your chance to snag the spotlight!
Photographer and trans media artist Austin Young, best known for his collaborative work with boundary-pushing artists like Leigh Bowery, Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho and Simon Cowell, has announced his latest collaborative project on IndieGogo. And this time, he wants to work with you.
Austin is calling on the public to participate in TBD, a brand new musical play and video conceived, written, and performed by everyone who wants to be a part of it. How’s that for inclusive?
With an emphasis on interaction, spontaneous creativity, participation and community building, performers interested in helping to create TBD (no experience required) will attend a series of workshops in Los Angeles over three weeks, helping to create dialogue, costumes, music, movement and sets for the musical play they’ll ultimately star in during three public dress rehearsals.
“I’m at a pivotal growth point in my artistic career,” Young says. “I’ve always wanted to create a musical play. I feel ready to go to the next level of work and expression. And I would like to do this in an experimental and collaborative way. I feel excitement and joy at the possibilities for this project. I think it will be fun and I feel it will be an unforgettable experience.”
The project is currently trying to reach $10,000, which will help fund everything from paint to a graphic designer. Workshops begin July 11th. Visit IndieGogo for more details.
