Australian ‘Family’ Lawmaker David Campbell Caught on Tape at Gay Sex Club

Not only did David Campbell, the Australian legislator, get himself videotaped at a gay sex club, he used his government car to drive there. Oh, and he’s got kids and is married. To a woman. Who has cancer. And considers himself a “family values” politician. Hello, resignation.

Campbell is accused of using a ministerial car to go to a gay club in Anzac Parade, Kensington, in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, on Tuesday evening, Channel 7 reported tonight. It is alleged he stayed for two hours at Ken’s, also known as KKK , which is a popular gay sauna. The club lies in Ms Keneally’s electorate of Heffron. The club has a $22 entry fee and assures clients discretion as they offer services for men who prefer men.

Oh god, and the club — which has a porn lounge and sauna — is nicknamed KKK? Jesus.

How much do you want to bet he’s going to spin this one in a similar way to that Rekers creep? Oh, he was there for to “save the sinners” or some other idiotic thing.

Funny how most if not all of these “family values” bigots/homophobes turn out to be huge closet cases themselves. Funny that!

Like I said regarding another one of these guys– whenever someone berates GLBT people and issues, we should fight them not with our demands for OUR fair treatment– bring the fight to their door! “When will you stop abusing interns, hiring male escorts, giving BJs under the bathroom stall, cruising the park, and abusing vicodin”. I am not playing hector projector for these guilt ridden men anymore.

We’re long overdue in coining a nickname for these Larry Craig/ Ted Haggard/ George Rekers/ David Campbell types. They’re like the rancid ‘oreos’ of the gay world.

Actually, Campbell is not a “pro-family” hypocrite like Reckers at all. And the use of the government car was standard practice: all ministers get to drive their government cars wherever they want. The rest of the story is true — and sad.

David Campbell was not homophobic, pro-family in Australia means something different than in the USA. He never said or did anything against the LGBT community. I think he voted the relationship registry in last week as well. Sad for his family but he wasn’t Homophobic, so stop bagging him out. Not a Ted Haggard or a George Rekers.

I live in New South Wales. David Campbell was an incompetent minister and I’m looking forward to seeing his government voted out of office at the election in 10 months time.

But it’s ridiculous to try to compare him to the likes of George Rekers. Campbell hasn’t run as a “family values” politician and has supported gay rights in parliament.

In 2003, David Campbell voted in favour of lowering the age of consent for homosexual men from 18 to 16. He has been a senior minister for several years now and I’ve never heard him say anything that could be considered anti-gay.

He did the wrong thing by not being open to his wife. But I think this is a case where a closeted politician deserves our sympathy and not our scorn. Everyone’s experiences in life are different and should be judges on their own merits.

Some politicians deserve all the scorn in the world for their hypocritcal double lives – David Campbell is not one of them.

I’m not really sorry for David but I think Channel 7 needs to look at the brothel-visiting antics of all politicians if it’s going to be consistent. Channel 7 needs to be taken to task on the issue of consistency. It’s not a very gay-friendly network to begin with, so I’m suspicious of their motives.

Australia is pretty homophobic all round. You wouldn’t want to go there unless you absolutely had to and the air-fares were bargain basement.

The NSW Labor Party is quite homophobic. Its relationship register is a system which treats gay people as second-class citizens. While the rest of the world is getting gay marriage and gay civil unions, silly little Australia still can’t do it.

@adam: “The rest of the world” is doing no such thing. A few countries here and there, yes; but as for the rest, well, slow and inferior progress is still better than none at all.
