Earlier we mentioned that John McCain hadn’t issued a gay marriage response. Well, we were wrong. The Republican’s presidential campaign had this to say about their candidate: “[McCain] supports the right of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution sanctioning the union between a man and a woman, just as he did in his home state of Arizona. John McCain doesn’t believe judges should be making these decisions.” Because the American people understand the constitution more than stupid old judges, right? [Boston Globe]

Gawd, what does that stupid fuck think that judges are for. Nothing: liker his buddy Bush.
just get rid of the balance of powers and the Constitutuion and it’ll all be hunky dorry : a Monarchy (or could it be a dictattorship?).

I’m still curious as to why anybody thinks that judges shouldn’t be administering the law. Every decision a justice makes is in essence making law or at very least setting or confirming precedence.
Taking that power from the ultimate court of the land or of the state, you might as well eliminate those jobs entirely.

Obama – “… and he will continue to fight for civil unions… and continues to believe that states should make their own decisions when it comes to the issue of marriage.†In other words, he’s a pigheaded opponent of same sex marriage and a supporter of states rights in the tradition of George Wallace and for the same reasons. Obama publicly panders to the cults.
Clinton – “… Hillary Clinton believes that … that civil unions are the best way to achieve this goal.†She has said and continues to believe that the issue of marriage should be left to the states.†Another pigheaded opponent of same sex marriage and supporter of George Wallace style states rights. Clinton publically panders to the cults,
McCain – “John McCain… recognize marriage as a unique institution sanctioning the union between a man and a woman…†Another pigheaded opponent of same sex marriage who panders to the cults.
Their positions are virtually identical and are in conflict with our fundamental liberties and civil rights. All three candidates oppose same sex marriage to compete for the support of the abrahamic cults: jesus inc., the yahweh corporation, mormon enterprises and allah ltd.
A Republican is a baboon in a people suit with a totalitarian theocrat attached at the hip. A Democrat (sic) is a Republican in drag. A vote for either isn’t just a wasted vote – it’s a vote FOR bigotry, war, and the continued assault on our standard of living.

One of the primary roles of the judiciary always has been to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. Modern day Republicans just don’t like that.
Also, there is a substantial difference between McCain’s position and that of the Democratic candidates.
McCain is endorsing the tactic of amendments to state constitutions as a means of denying same-sex couples the right to civil marriage. The democrats are endorsing civil marriage, but calling it “civil union” so that the religious fanatics don’t go after them.
This to me is a big difference, if you consider the overall effect.
I guess the Republicans do attract some minority voters, but I think there is a good reason they are few in number.

I agree with John. There’s a BIG difference between the Clinton/Obama stance on gay marriage versus what McCain is saying. I’ll admit that none of them are wholly satisfying.

Civil unions are not at all the same as marriage, civil or otherwise and their advocacy by Cinton, McCain and Obama endorses our second class citizenship. Nancy Polikoff, GLBT equality activist and American University law professor who wrote Beyond (Straight and Gay) Marriage: Valuing All Families Under the Law, says “It’s called civil partnership in the UK (I love that name…think we should replace “marriage” with “civil partnership” for all). I don’t like a separate institution for same-sex couples because it is a mark of second-class status. What’s the point of denying the same word straight couples have other than to mark same-sex couples as inferior???â€
All three candidates are obstinately opposed to same sex marriage and say so repeatedly and for the same reason, they’re all pandering to bigots.
That was why Democrats voted overwhelmingly for DOMA and why Bill Clinton rushed it into law and then bought radio ad on bigoted Southern christian radio stations to BOAST about his signature and asked bigots to vote Democratic.
The two Democrats resurrected George Wallace’s’ Dixiecrat ‘states rights’ tactic to camouflage their superstitious (religious) opposition to same sex marriage. Their approach is just as bad as McCain’s, just worded differently to hoodwink the unwary, the naive, and people who’ll believe anything.
