Because african Americans in this country have a history of having been persecuted, lynched and discriminated against because of who they are.
So for them a group of people who at the first smell of discrimination against them(because of their skin color) to show such hatred, disdain and violence against us not only shows what a bunch of hypocrites they are but also shows how inhumane and void of the capacity of learning from their own experiences they are. And quite honestly how undeserving they are of the protections that were fought not only by them but also by many other groups Whites and yes Gays on their behalf.

I strongly disagree. If you raised those same men in a more privileged situation, you know this wouldn’t have happened. Poverty doesn’t purely create crimes related to property and wealth, if anything it creates more anger. I would say yes you can blame poverty. Look at these environments!

That said, there is no excuse for anti gay violence. None at all. Just like there is no excuse for most violence (side-bar: anyone here a fan of the show Homicide? A police detective bemoans that in all of his years he has never heard one good reason for killing someone).And the folk who attacked Makar are in the same boat with Church-lady: unable to recognize the human in those who are different.
Hopefully the men who did this crime will be caught and punished.

I used to live in that neighborhood, which is very pedestrian-oriented, walked to and from those bars all the time, and always felt completely safe (it’s a very diverse and gay area), so I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around how the area has changed in the 4 years since I moved. The street where he was attacked is a main thoroughfare, well-lit and very well-traveled, especially on weekend nights. On the other hand, if ya gonna roll someone for cash, it’d make sense to do it there–West 117/Clifton is within a block of some of the most expensive lakefront highrises in the city. It’s all so sad on so many different levels, and really does seem to point up Cleveland’s economic downturn.

Violence and discrimination are always wrong, but the black experience and the gay experience, while they have some similarities, are NOT the same thing at all.
I find it interesting, however, that apparently this dipshit seems to think that black and gay are mutually exclusive, as he’s refrained from distinguishing SOME black people committing violent acts from the black community in general. ALL hypocrites, eh? One would be lead to believe that black gay people did not exist, let alone hetero black people who just wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing under any circumstances. The inhumanity of the black race as a whole is a nice touch. By the way, those protections he’s so proud of and so eager to rescind wouldn’t have been necessary without wrongdoing to begin with. If everyone had just been treated like human beings from the start, no Great White Saviors would have been needed to undo what their peers had done. That basic history education would come in handy to realize that point too.
From the tone of his rant, I’d feel safe assuming that he’s also the type who’d be up in arms if he heard a black person who’d recently experienced violence or discrimination at the hands of a white person talk about whites in such a general fashion.
