Whenever an apology states, like this one, IF I have offended (” I apologize if my words have generated controversy or misunderstanding, and if they have offended the…”) then you know there’s no remorse there at all. A heartfelt apology would read: “I’m sorry I offended….” –no “if.” Besides, their pasta isn’t any better than any store brand, let alone premium brands. Screw ‘em.
On a related topic, when the Chick-Fil-A pres Dan T. Cathy made his famous “outreach” to the LGBT community, some folks were distressed because they knew they had to join the boycott and give up Chick-Fil-A delicious foods. Well, I’d never had any of their foods, but one day I came across a store in a mall, and even though I almost never eat fast food, I had to try it, see what the fuss was about. You know what? It was just another crappy greasy low-quality junk food.
And so there’s Barilla. As in the case with Chick-Fil-A, there’s no real sacrifice to give up their products, since there’s nothing special about them. But there is something special about Mr. Barilla, isn’t there?
