THE SHOT - Yes, straight ally Ben Cohen does read gay skin mags… as long as it’s his skin on the cover. We’d accuse him of pandering to gay audiences if he hadn’t quit his professional rugby career to fight international homophobia.
Woof! Ben Cohen is hot!

@Tommy Shepherd: The real question is what has he really done besides taking off his shirt and revealing his lack of wax job?
It’s pathetic how sites like this will rip apart Dan Savage and throw him under the bus despite all that he’s done and continues to do, but when it comes to the likes of straight dudes like this, there’s a rush to defend him.

@TheRealMannequinAdam: What the f*ck is your problem???
A straight professional Rugby player quits his sport so he can fight homophobia and you want to bitch about it???
You’re f’n pathetic. You sound like a jaded, bitter old queen who needs to get a grip.
btw, I love how Queerty says if he hadn’t been fighting homophobia for so long they’d find some way to write some negative Nancy article about him actually being cool with gay guys.
You know, statements like the ones you and Queerty make, zoning in on some bullshite aspect of a heterosexual trying to help our cause, does far more damage to the LGBT community then almost anything else when it comes to getting straight people to speak up on our behalf.
As for Queerty bitching about Dan Savage… No, really? Queerty? Never….

Ben Cohen is the best. It’s rare for any athlete to take that extra step and fight homophobia. The vast majority of athletes simply care about sponsorships and not frightening the horses. They’re cowards, basically.
Ben is a great role model for any American athlete who might want to take the lead on fighting homophobia. I’m always amazed that, considering the size of the United States, there are very few athletes prepared to do what Ben is doing. American athletes need to step up to the plate.

@TheRealMannequinAdam: Really, I think that the movement has room for both Ben Cohen and Dan Savage. Each has his strong points. Cohen, like a very few others in sports, is able to get through to sports fans and stop the brutality. Savage is able to help get the message to LGBT kids that “you’re okay.” Two sides of the same issue. Please grow up. Smearing Cohen’s work because you don’t like the way Queerty treated Savage is asinine and counter productive. Take your issue up with Queerty, not out on someone who is actually doing something.

@gregger: My issue isn’t and wasn’t with Queerty and Dan Savage to begin with, since that was only an addendum to what I was discussing. Even without that contrast in treatment between the two, Ben Cohen is useless, and he isn’t doing anything that’s remarkable except dropping a few words on bullying and equality AFTER he’s terminated his sports career. There’s no gamble. This is nothing but a retirement adventure for him, but you dumb queens sop it up like melted butter on a hot biscuit. Go ahead and enjoy it, but it’s still bullshit in the end.

When all the GAY gay activists out there in the trenches are profiled as rigorously as this buffoon and put on a pedestal, then I might actually give two shits about your defense of your fantasy fuck, Ben Cohen. Until then, STFU and flush.

And yet this same level of contempt and vitriol isn’t expressed about Dan Savage, who has done more ONLY in terms of his D list celebritay exceeding that of Cohen’s. The peeps who talk of Dan Savage as a “gay activist” are the same people who think that any criticism of the IGBP (as, say, a vehicle for self important people to talk about themselves and say obnoxious things like, “I SAVE LIVES!” to pump themselves up) is an flat out endorsement of gay teen suicide. But you wouldn’t be one of those. It’s all bullshit (No on h8, igbp, and this). It’s advertism not activism.

Divide and conquer mentality. Look, there’s a problem with fetishizing heterosexuality amongst gay men, but to use this an excuse to introduce it and bitterly complain about it is practically slapstick. But I’ve stopped taking you seriously.
Enjoy!

I can’t believe I agree with “The Real Adam,” but here we are. I’m so sick of this Ben Cohen guy, who is being shoved down our throats because he is “hot” while we ignore the GAY people that are fighting for our rights. And before anyone says it, I have done PLENTY for the movement. It is beyond pathetic that our community is giving so much attention to this guy who is risking absolutely nothing but racking up speaking gigs and appearance fees because he and his publicist figured out that a certain sect of gay guys are so self loathing that they will worship this straight guy for really not doing a hell of a lot.
The fact that we make personalities out of someone like this person exemplifies everything that is wrong with this movement, and speaks to the generational issues that come along with gay Inc being run by people in their 40′s and 50′s who still have a great deal of internalized homophobia and straight guy admiration.
Pathetic.

Did Ben Cohen really quit his sport to fight homophobia? I’m not so sure about that. According to wiki, it was more like he didn’t secure a contract and thus retired, to focus on his anti-BULLYING campaign. Which homophobia falls under but it’s not like that is his main goal.
That said, he does seem to come out to gay events, speak out against homophobia and isn’t afraid to appear on gay mags, etc. So I’m all for this dude. But let’s make certain the facts aren’t represented correctly.

@TheRealMannequinAdam: excuse me? “you dumb queens…” Go ride a shorn horse’s tail. While you’re at you might want to take your head out of your rectum before you insert the horse tail as I don’t think there would be room.
