Beth Ditto v. Skinny Faggots

dittorants.jpg
Outspoken out singer Beth Ditto‘s got no love for Karl Lagerfeld and his ilk. The large and in charge The Gossip vocalist blames size-centric gay designers for the world’s alarming body culture:

If there’s anyone to blame for size zero, it’s not women. Blame gay men who work in the fashion industry and want these women as dolls.

Men don’t know what it feels like to be a woman and be expected to look a particular way.

Oh, please, Beth! You’re being ridiculous. First and foremost, gay designers don’t dress women as dolls. They dress them how they’d want to be dressed if they didn’t have a wang.

Second, we know what it’s like to be expected to look a “particular” way. We’re gay! Everyone expects us to look a particular way. It’s skinny jeans in New York! Board shorts in Malibu! Horns and hooves in Alabama! It’s really quite exhausting…

Can we have a moratorium on this fat, stupid, untalented bitch already? She’s more than used up her 15 minutes.

Well, I know Mr. Queerty Editor was just being characteristically tongue-in-cheek, but No. 1, you and he just both pretty much proved her point.

I’m tired of entertainment industry types shooting off their mouths about anything.

As with most loud mouths, she only sees how something effects her.

EXCUSE me, but have you seen what the Gay Media is endlessly promoting as the ideal man (gay or trade)? And its WORSE among gay men, you don’t even have to be attractive, just worked out to be considered “hot.”

Be an artist, write a fucking song about it and shut up.

Mr B – how did comment No 1 “prove” her point? Disagreeing with her proves her point? Well that’s an easy way to win an argument: if you disagree with me you prove my point, so you must agree with me. Grow up.

You think if a skinny woman blamed gay men for female insecurities, that we would accept it just because she’s skinny? Stupidity is stupidity, be it from a “fat, stupid, untalented bitch” or a skinny, stupid, untalented guy.

She is allowed to have opinions, and if she says gay men do not understand what it is like to be a fat woman, she’s right — gay men cannot understand what it’s like to be a woman, period (just as they cannot understand what it is like to be one of us.)

I think she speaks from a very wounded place — growing up fat is very unpleasant from the time we are in grade school. That she chooses to stay fat and present it as an act of defiance is sure to grate on some people as *every* act of defiance does.

bruyninckx37, I hope you’re not claiming that there aren’t any gay men who grew up fat. Being a fat lesbian ain’t too bad a sin in the dating world. Being a fat gay man, or boy, can be ruinous in regards to dating.

Wow, Gregg, who are you telling to grow up? What did No. 1 do to show his disapproval of Ditto, who has plenty of faults to call out? First thing out of his mouth was the “fat bitch” card. I think that rounded out her argument quite nicely. You rightly said, “Stupidity is stupidity,” but that point seems to be lost when the penultimate character flaw people can point to about a person is her being fat.

Paul Roposo, certainly would not claim there are no gay men who grew up fat since I am one of them. Still fat, too. Ruinous in regards to dating? That’s an understatement! There is no worse curse as a gay man than to be fat, and the cruelty toward and hatred for it far outdoes straight society by leaps and bounds.

One of Beth Ditto’s earlier claims was how the perception is that lesbians are more tolerant of being hefty but she said that while they talk the talk they don’t walk the walk, they want athletic bodies as much as the fellas do. Just another of her opinions, of course…I’ve never tried dating lesbians so I could have no idea.
