Who gives a shit, except people who interpret Abrahamic mythology as real, and have made religious institutions of guilt around those ancient myths?
Interesting article. It's odd that homosexuality is such a minor (and undeniably ambiguous) issue in the Bible, but it's one of the biggest issues for the Christian churches today. You'd think, maybe, that Christians would concentrate on spreading love and helping the poor and all those issues that permeate throughout the ENTIRE Bible, instead of focusing hate on people who've really done nothing to deserve it ….
In the meantime, the Pope's laughing all the way to the bank.
Contrary to the propaganda espoused by religious fundamentalist industries, the Bible is not inerrant nor the word of a god being. It is a compilation of writings by flawed men who clearly demonstrated the prejudices and ignorance of the times in which they lived. Thus, because the Bible is not a very good book but certainly a very very long one, it provides bigots and extremists an endless supply of barbaric ancient texts with which to damn and persecute.
Gay human beings, despite what the extremist factions of the Supernaturalists wish everyone to believe, are beautiful natural positive variations of life. Equality is our birthright from time immemorial, even if but in the abstract. The only real debate in our time regarding gay people is the same debate had regarding past scapegoated vilified minorities: how will the supremacists accept their defeat as newer generations reject their idiocy?
My personal connection with the Creator, (call him/her/it what you want) is just that, personal. No one will experience my death, whenever what comes next, will/or willnot, show itself, but me. Only you can experience your own. I believe that's when all questions will be answered, or not. We exist on this planet, or not.
The Pope is just happy to be in a dress with comfy slippers. He could be wearing a wearing a silver cockring under there and using a solid gold buttplug.
LeoMoore, there's really no need to be so crude and disrespectful …..
I agree with Seamus7 entirely!
This is useful, because it is a weapon. When some self-righteous jerk starts telling me about how it is God's will, I can turn his words against him. "See? Right here, Jesus said he was cool with homosexuality." It'll set them back for a least a minute.
Excellent Seamus7
For those who don't toss religion and Christianity entirely, this debate is beyond ridiculous. The Bible is either read literally (and even with this some of the most ardent must hedge! Do trees talk in Exodus? That is what is says) or the Bible must be interpreted with attention paid to scholarly research, context, culture and linquistics. The reason most debates cannot be solved is everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter how little knowledge or research they have or do.
