The “Queen of Bounce” may be bouncing his way to the big house. Bounce music sensation and Fuse reality star Big Freedia (real name: Freddie Ross, Jr.) was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with felony theft of government funds.

Big Freedia allegedly collected more than $1,000 in Section 8 vouchers (valued at $34,000) even as his income and profile exploded from 2010-2014. Freedia says he’s already started paying restitution and is cooperating with the investigation.

In a statement, he blames financial illiteracy (and not Stunt Queen antics) on the situation:

“This is an incredibly unfortunate situation. I was on subsidized housing for many years before my financial situation changed. I quickly found myself in a new economic structure and, frankly, knew little about how to handle my money. It wasn’t until recently that it became very clear I had received assistance to which I wasn’t entitled.  It was  an oversight – but one that I take full responsibility for.”

Apparently you can be featured in a Beyonce video (“Formation”) yet remain unaware that you just might be making too much money to qualify for housing assistance. Who knew?

He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
