“Oh yeah,” Bill Clinton says when asked whether he regrets Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, “but I didn’t choose this policy.” His hands were tied! Both the House and Senate voted in a veto-proof majority to ban gays from service entirely. DADT was a compromise, as we’ve heard before, and gay soldiers were supposed to be left alone — even if they marched in gay pride parades. Where have we heard this before? Oh right, from Sen. John McCain after yesterday’s vote. Seventeen years later, McCain is still believing the Pentagon is implementing DADT as Congress saw fit.

Bill Clinton: DADT Was Never Supposed To Be This Terrible

You thought a lot of things, penis nose. Just like you thought that getting a blowjob from an intern wasn’t “sexual relations”.
You, penis nose, are an example of how the good intentions of liberals often end up as horrifying consequences. As a community, we gays have gone to hell in the liberal hand-basket. DADT, DOMA…it’s all your doing, penis nose.
Skeptical Cicada
Fuck you, Bill.
Jake
Give me a f-ing break, Bill and Hillary have at least been vocal about trying to right a wrong, what has Obama done? He’s been in office for nearly 2 years and has barely done anything. Bill signed this in the 90s before most Americans were gay friendly/tolerant. Barry is just sitting on his hands. We should have picked Hillary like I said all along. Strong women seem to do more for the gay community then any straight man
Jake
*weren’t gay friendly/tolerant
whatever
lol here come the PUMAs giving Bill and Hillz a complete pass for their anti-gay stances. Reminder: Bill Clinton signed DADT and DOMA into law.
Cam
Yeah Bill, but dismissals of gay soldiers went UP while you were president, and you had 7 years to do ANYTHING. You could have said something to the Pentagon like “Hey, dismissals of gay soldiers are way up, I need a report on how this policiy is being implemented.”
But you never said a word in the 7 years after DADT was passed. So Please don’t come in and pretend you give a crap now.
John (CA)
As is the case with most Democratic politicians, Clinton only came out of the closet as a liberal long after he left office. He’s now in favor of legalizing marijuana, same-sex marriage, and clean energy. This particular Bill Clinton was MIA in the 1990s. The same could be said of Gore.
Why can’t the Democrats ever stand up for what they believe in?

I’ve got a new name for the limp-wristed, excuse-accepting gays who make excuses for lying Democrats: GINO’s. This means “Gay In Name Only”. These are the equivalent of the RINO’s (Republicans In Name Only).
The GINO’s will always make excuses for Democrats. Here we have Bill Clinton – a faux gay advocate – who signed off on two repulsive pieces of legislation which still haunt us, namely DOMA and DADT. Yet the GINO’s will jump to the Clintons’ defense like a case of pox on a chicken.
Brutus
@John (CA): Because they won’t get elected in this country. Only conservatives and the far left care enough to vote, and the former far outnumber the latter.
Bill Perdue
Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar who taught constitutional law. He knew exactly what he was signing onto, He knew it was the codification of military bigotry enforced by military bigots in the officer class. (Obama’s “compromise” is more of the same.)
Clinton also knew exactly what he was doing when he championed DOMA, signed it into law within hours of its passage and then rushed to run ads on redneck christer radio trawling for bigot votes.
Clinton was – is – the definitive DemocratDixiecrat and anti-GLBT bigot. He signed NAFTA and deregulated the banks. He slashed social programs and flooded the streets with cops. He’s a rightwinger who’s lasting legacies are DADT, DOMA, austerity and 15,000,000 unemployed.
Pip
@whatever: Unlike Barack Obama, Bill Clinton has come out in favor of gay marriage. Oh wait, here come the Obama Democrats, giving Barry a pass for his anti-gay stances.
the crustybastard
Oh, so it turns out that legalizing discrimination is bad?
Well, who could have predicted THAT?
Christ, what an asshole.

I think Rachel Maddow said it best, “Bill Clinton is the best Republican president this country ever had.”
ewe
COMPROMISE??? For whom? Bullshit artists fucking with peoples lives. That’s what this is all about. Oh yeah, we are still at war as well.
ewe
@Jake: One SHOULD right the wrong they implemented.
Why All the h8? (John from England)
@Pip:
Yes and who is president?
Did bill clinton come out for gay anything as president? Furthermore Obama was pro gay marriage when based in Chicago, again, was bill pro gay ANYTHING before he was president???????
Pip you stoopido.

Bill Clinton was the first president EVER to publicly embrace gays and lesbians. Maybe, y’all don’t remember or don’t care, but I can tell you that as a scared and isolated gay kid in the Bible Belt, his actions gave me hope that I’d never had. He was the first person I ever heard tell me that I was OK. Yes, the man caved… but he was the one that started the conversation. And if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have gotten nearly as far as we have.
