Bill Clinton: DADT Was Never Supposed To Be This Terrible

“Oh yeah,” Bill Clinton says when asked whether he regrets Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, “but I didn’t choose this policy.” His hands were tied! Both the House and Senate voted in a veto-proof majority to ban gays from service entirely. DADT was a compromise, as we’ve heard before, and gay soldiers were supposed to be left alone — even if they marched in gay pride parades. Where have we heard this before? Oh right, from Sen. John McCain after yesterday’s vote. Seventeen years later, McCain is still believing the Pentagon is implementing DADT as Congress saw fit.
