Bill Leckie Said The Obvious About Drag Queens Three Years Ago And Now Can’t Win a Stonewall Award

The gay advocacy group Stonewall Scotland (a subsidiary of Stonewall UK) has removed writer Bill Leckie, a Scottish Sun byline, from its list of Journalist of the Year nominees for next month’s Stonewall Awards after previously defending the selection of the scribe. In 2007 Leckie wrote a piece on drag queen bingo: “Eight o’clock on Wednesday and an army of frighteningly ugly women are pouring into a boozer called Prism for bingo night. Or at least from a distance they LOOK like women.” Scandal! Leckie has also written about America’s crapshoot gay rights policies and a piece of out rugby player Gareth Thomas.
