Rev. Franklin Graham is not only following in the footsteps of his father, elderly evangelist Billy Graham, he’s also apparently studied Pat Robertson and memorized every trite cliche ever written about gay people. In a new interview with the Charlotte Observer, Frankie, who now serves as CEO and president of Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc., trots out the decades-old “gays want to convert our children” silliness.
“Of course, gays and lesbians cannot have children,” he offered as a nugget of wisdom, before the reporter informed him that same-sex couples can adopt in many states.
“You can adopt a child into a marriage, but you can also recruit children into your cause,” he states, adding that he wants to. Wow, get some new material, dude.
Then as if the recent antigay column he wrote for the Graham empire magazine Decision wasn’t clear enough, the Rev. launches into another disturbing, ill-informed spiel in which he reveals he sees Valdimir Putin as a role model.

“I agree with Putin,” he states. “Protecting his nation’s children… was a pretty smart thing to do.” Riiiight. Putin’s doing an amazing job protecting young people in Russia.
Graham also waxes on about how Congress needs to do more to protect America’s children from the “gay and lesbian agenda” and accuses President Obama of pushing this agenda.

I thought we got rid of that “protect the children” nonsense when the Florida orange-juice industry gave Anita Bryan “a day without sunshine.” It’s the GAY kids who need protection — from the bullies and guys like Billy Graham, who once said that all gays should be castrated. (Sure, he apologized later, but it was one of those empty apologies that was obviously written by the guy’s publicist.)
In this day and age, how can people be so fucking ignorant of how people become gay? Have you EVER “recruited” anyone into this so-called “lifestyle”? Anyone who thinks that has happened to any kid simply doesn’t want to believe the kid was always destined to be gay and was likely looking to be “recruited.” No amount of enticement, or cajoling, or even seduction will turn a straight person gay.

Sorry, I meant Anita BRYANT, not Bryan. Her “protect the children” campaign basically ended her music career, but she went right on with her anti-gay ministry. And Franklin Graham’s statement came straight from her playbook — that gays can’t have children, so they have to recruit other people’s children.
It’s not even true. I have children, Elton John has children, Ricky Martin has children. To insinuate that they any feelings toward their children other than those of a loving parent is insulting.

I’m about as surprised to hear Franklin Graham say children need “protecting” from gay people as I would be hearing him say he thinks Catholics are “idol worshipers” and that the Pope is “the anti-Christ”. Ignorance is hard to cure.

No one has to demonize conservative Christians, they are demons, pure evil, just look through out history in the USA and the world. The only way their ideology or kind or Christianity was able to spread the world over is because they killed people. If they didn’t do that, they made them slaves, made eat human excitement, (Columbus, and we have a holiday for that demon) lets focus on him, how did he spread his religion, along with what I already mentioned: rape, torture, cutting limbs off, all levels of mental and physical abuse, etc, We can’t forget Adolf Hitler either, he is by far the most well-known and successful conservative Christian. The problem is, today’s Christians have that special “Oh but they werent real Christians” card to toss into any conversation about the past. It’s used even today, the KKK for instance. I imagine in the future they will use that card saying all those anti gay rights folks werent real Christians; Palin, Bachman, the Republican Party of today, most “red states” in the USA. I wish I believed in God and Angels and Demons and Unicorns (yes, they’re in the Wholly Babble 5-9 times, depending upon the translation used). I do know this: the Babble commands believers to be humble and loving, to reach out. Not to cross their arms and eyes, and be snide.
What does this mean for idiots like FrankLOON? “God” put them here with a mission, and part of it is to reach out to nonbelievers and convince ME of their Savior’s power through the example of their own lives. Never in scripture does God or Jesus tell followers, “Just tell people not to worry if Christians fvck up, they should look to God, not man.” Nope, Jesus says “They shall know you are Christians by your love.”
The fable would conclude with Jesus returning and asking, “Where are all the gays and lesbians I sent you to love and bring to me?”

Franklin Graham desperately wants the power (and money) that his father once commanded. What Franklin fails to realize (or acknowledge) is that this is a different world than the one his father fooled. Women are no longer barefoot and pregnant, LGBT people no longer hide in their closets out of fear and people don’t simply accept the rhetoric, cliches and platitudes from rich white men simply because they profess to be men of God (or the son of one) while living in mansions and driving ridiculously expensive cars. Franklin’s biggest problem (and maybe biggest fear) is that daddies followers are very old and dying off daily and the young, even the religious young, aren’t flocking to his brand of divide and conquer old time religion.

I feel sorry for Franklin. He got tired of that persistent rumor that before his dad had to turn his ministry over to his son, Franklin had an affair with Scott Lively. Paranoid, suspecting he might be found out, Franklin consulted with Tony (the PAC man, not the actor) Perkins who said, “I had to start putting down gays when people asked me if I was the gay actor. You can keep people from finding out if you pretend to hate gays. Works for me.”
