Here's an interesting development… There are rumors that Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, who opposes the war in Iraq and fiercely criticizes the Bush administration, may be considered as Barack Obama's running mate in November. Hagel, who hails from Nebraska, seems to be the GOP's anti-McCain, which would potentially draw away from the presumptive Republican nominee. [Salon]

Yeah, I spotted that earlier.
I'm on Salon's mailing list. I don't think it's going to happen, though.
I'm all for a bipartisan administration, but I have to draw the line at putting even a reasonable republican a heartbeat away from the presidency in a Democratic administration. Anyway, the disenchanted repubs Hagel MIGHT attract will be Obama-inclined anyway.
Secretary of Defense? A very strong possibility. But in a VP, Obama wants a partner on a broad range of issues, and Hagel is only in line on foreign policy.
Yuck.
