While I don’t agree with pointing a finger at the Sunday gatherings at Piedmont Park – the neighborhood is on edge over some VERY violent crimes recently. This is from the Southern Voice.
“But Midtown has experienced a string of intense crimes in recent months, including an early morning shooting near Monroe Drive and Amsterdam Avenue, the gay editor of a progressive newspaper being stabbed on Monroe Drive, and a series of gunpoint robberies of gay men walking home from nearby bars and nightclubs.” – I know of one robbery where they discovered the victim lived close by and took him back to his place to rob it.
And midtown is as gay as ever (as someone who works for a nonprofit, I’m not swimming in “dollahs”), but with a mix of people that I find refreshing instead of being a gay ghetto (you can now actually walk to a grocery store and dozens of good restaurants).

Part of the problem is, of course, racism, but also the fact that Midtown has been degaying since 1996 and the building of shiny yuppie condos (the infamous Backstreet club was a victim of this phenomenon), attracting heterosexuals and gays with dollahs who are making Midtown more sterile with each passing year.
