Well it looks like the media took the bait: Disc jockey Blake Hayes' gay bashing in New York City over the weekend is getting pick up. The New York Post, NBC New York, and ABC New York are all picking up the story.
And with Hayes' alleging the NYPD didn't do anything about the incident — "We showed them my friend's lip, which had been cut when he got hit in the face. They basically said that they couldn't get him for assault because there was no physical injury. And we said, 'We just showed you the cut.' And they said, 'Well, it has to be something bigger than that." — guess who's launching an internal investigation to see if cops didn't go by the book? The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force "is looking into the incident."
Elsewhere, it appears local police do investigate, and make arrests in, hate crimes assaults.
