Well since god doesn't actually exist…no. The blame here is almost entirely on religion in general though. Oh we can blame ourselves for not doing enough in time. But the protesting and reaching out across the board ahead of time is not going to change the mind of people who are voting a certain way because of their beliefs. Nothing short of god slapping them across the face and screaming WTF R U Thinking?! in their ears will change their minds. And for the reason i listed already, that won't happen anytime soon.
We can't just blame this on a racial issue either. 70% of blacks voted for the amendment because as a whole, the black community is generally more religious and are part of more homophobic religions. It's not about race, it's about religous bigotry. So no…we can't blame god…only the people who claim to follow him.

What does God need with a Proposition? God (if you believe in the magical sky wizard) is above and beyond such things. This is the work of bigoted men and women NOT God.

We are foolish if we abandon religion to the bigots. The American homophobes are a loud but primitive arm of religious thought — which at its best has been a powerful force for expanding the idea of human freedom and dignity.

Involvement in a local church is a great way to change the culture of religion in this country, and to remind yourself and others of the great untapped source of strength in faith.

Blaming God for anything is a lot like blaming Harry Potter for anything. Fictional characters don't actually do anything.

"70% of blacks voted for the amendment"

As far as CNN's exit polling tells us, which I highly doubt is totally accurate.

Say you believe in God. God has given man free will. He has also given Satan dominion over evil. Satan is also a great deceiver who can sometimes appear as God to men willing to accept him as God. So no God had nothing to do with the actions of men. No the question is what do we do about Prop 8? How many times has Pat RObertson said hurricanes and destruction will come upon gays for their evil ways. I am reminded of the year he "tempted God" and said DIsney World would be hit by a hurricane because of theire "Gay Days". That same hurricane bypassed Orlando and head straight for CBN headquarters. I thought quite ironic

I have never been able to understand why the religious right chooses to persecute people for being gay (per obscure entries in Leviticus) but when it comes to adultery, one of the "big 10" there just doesn't seem to be as much emphasis.

Jimmy Swaggert can hook up with hookers and cry on TV and all is fine, but we want to live in peace and harmony in our quiet neighborhoods and it is a crime against God?

There is no logic to this.

We know who's to blame. Keep dancing around the issue if you want.

Rebelcomx (No. 1) is still correct. Racism is the refuge of the superficial in this case; chalk this one up to yet another atrocity committed in the name of christianity in particular, religion in general.

Here you go.

Enough said, especially the last part of this article.

Love the sinner, hate the sin. Hate God, not man, He said it.

How can you blame god – it doesn't exist. Blame organised religions, yes. They should't have special rights. They shouldn't have special privileges. They are only worthy of contempt and disrespect. While we're all kid-gloves, they're out and about with whatever blunt object comes to hand. It's a gang war that they'll continue winning as long as they're allowed to set the rules of engagement.

No, we're not all of one mind, but we are more than all of them on the religion issue. Until that is taken on fully, everything else is just a token that can be snatched away as easily as it is given.

KEITH, I don't get your point, or did I miss it? What do you believe should be about Prop 8?

God isn't the one to blame. It's what people do in his (their) name that is the problem. It's my opinion that people are welcome to believe whatever they want to believe, but when they start imposing it on the rest of society, that's where it becomes a problem.

@nikko: I believe prop 8 is wrong, whether you believe in God or not. I was just saying when the question comes up. Why do bad things happen to good people? It kind of applies to Prop 8. You can't be too sure what God wants, one can only interpret what He wants based on what one believes. I'm an agnostic. I don't know if there is a God or not. Hearing all the BS that the religious conservatives (Jews, Christians, Muslims) I have a hard time accepting their idea of God. I believe in the whole do unto others and help thy neighbor but it seems to get harder and harder to live by that creed.
