Boom Homos Still Hopeful
Queers rallying to save Laguna Beach’s famed Boom Boom Room are attempting to sway billionaire developer Steven F. Udvar-Hazy from destroying the famed gay bar. The activists hope Udvar-Hazy can appreciate the Boom’s long gay history. Said one concerned citizen: “This really is a gay community going back to the 1930s and 1940s…That is what we’re fighting to preserve.” Do real estate developers even know what “history” means? Or “preserve,” for that matter? [Bloomberg]
If they’re so concerned, why didn’t they form a consortium and buy it in the first place? It’s his property, and if it’s not landmarked, it’s his to do with as he sees fit.
