Boston AIDS Nonprofit Director Funneled $120K Into Her Gambling Habit

valerie-tebbettsIf you’re going to gamble, at least use your own damned money.

Last week, Valerie Tebbetts plead guilty to embezzling more than $120,000 while she was the director of the Boston Living Center, a nonprofit that provides care for people living with HIV/AIDS. We can’t think of a worse place to send the charity dollars: a casino. Practically the opposite of a “good cause.”

Tebbetts was sentenced to five years probation, during which she’ll have to work toward paying back the center. Anyone hear any good get-rich-quick schemes recently?

For a split second, I thought the picture was a badly photoshopped President Obama in drag.

She should have gone to jail. She got off way too light. At the very least it should have been 5 yeara of community service to those with HIV/AIDS.

Don’t Executive Directors of these types of organizations already make a zillion a year?

5 years of probation & she’ll work on paying back money???

      Are you f’n kidding me?

How about immediate jail; they used to call it Debtor’s Prison, and seizing of assets or garnished wages? Is she married in MA? They should lose it all.

I remember a guy who represented Mission Hill District. He stole tons of money from Mary the Street Lady that would work the taxi lines, garbage bags (full of money) in tow. When the guy was caught, he said he no longer had the cash. It was now invested in his elderly mother’s home (on Martha’s Vineyard). “Do you want me to sell the house and put my mother on the street?”

Hell, yeah, would have been my answer, but not in MA. Something’s seriously wrong there.

Jeff for Justice- in a previous article on the matter it was reported her salary was 86,000 per year. Most npo’s do not pay their employees a lot of money, not even the directors.
